Hi all. I have a question about counting yeast generations. Dose every time you step up a starter does that count as a Generation?

As far as I know, a generation is one fermentation in a batch.

Good question. Generally it is not counted because the environment is a lot friendlier to the yeast (lower gravity, less head pressure, etc), so there is less risk of mutation.

There is no limit to the number of times you can re-use yeast, if you look after it well. It is just that it does mutate over several generations and may not produce the same results as the original strain.
