Question for the more experienced. I ordered a Dry Irish Stout recipe from Northern Brewer last week and it just came in yesterday. Was in FedEx travel since Monday, but its cold out so no biggie there. I didn't realize it showed up yesterday because I was out all night. Apparently my wife brought it inside and left it at room temp all day (70 F). It's now been 14 hours when I caught it and immediately opened the kit and refrigerated the yeast.

Will this be a problem for when I'm ready to use it? Should I plan on buying another Wyeast 1084 Irish Ale Yeast and not use this one?

This brings up another question though. How do you guys handle this in the summer with yeast packages in hot temp travel for a week or more?

Your yeast will be fine. In the summer time, most online shippers will offer the option to ship with a cold pack.

So that being said, what are the normal and optimal storage requirements for yeast? I needed something quick to brew this weekend and picked up an Brewers Best Kolsch kit at a local store. I was a little disgruntled that the yeast pack feels like a brick. That's got me a bit worried.
