WTB Co2 tank in Chicago.

I am looking for a Co2 tank to complete my new kegging set up. I have a few things I could trade or just buy if the price is right.

Theres a guy selling one in Racine. Not sure if you ever make it up that far.

Look for a gas supplier in your area. Someone who sells propane and/or caters to construction contractors. Back when I was running a Co2 tank on a heaviliy planted aquarium, that's where I picked up my tank (from an industrial supplier). That's if you have no luck with a local HBS (sometimes they sell used tanks).

One thing I will not advise is to rent one from AirGas. I called the one in Aurora the other day and they told me it would be ~$68 for the rental for a year plus refills for a 5lb tank. I had read numerous postings in the past talking about how it was fairly cost effective to rent instead of buy and refill, but not anymore.

I recently purchased a hydro tested and filled 5 lb tank for $65.

My local airgas will price match. I'm renting a 80cf argon tank for 10 cents a day, down from 45 cents.

I have sanke kegs, but its not worth the shipping. Ill probably just buy a tank. But you never know, some one in Chicago might have a tank they don't need.

Check airgas in hammond. Right over the indiana border. Best prices that i have foun. Much cheaper than praxaire. Airgas.com

Only plus is that you don't have to mess with the hydro test every 5 years, but that $20 in no way offsets the cost. $340 for 5 years of rentals (given no price increase) or ~$65 one time payment and maybe $20 for a hydro test in 5 years.

Yup? 65 is a lot for co2 tank.

It is indeed a 15.5 gallon sanke keg, it is also coated in rubber. I have one as my eHLT.

Think about calling NFC gas in Chicago, they do hydro tests, fill and sell tanks. Also, make sure you have a good wrench for the regulator to tank connection or it will leak.
