I thought these were just shelves and I was just about to drill and install my ranco temperature controller when I realized it looks like the freon lines run underneath the shelves in this freezer. Crap! Do I need another freezer or is there a way around this?

maybe a dumb response but are those shelves adjustable? The sides of the freezer appears that they are with those different slots... If not you could use it as a great beer fridge!

It looks that way but if you look at the white pipe looking thing in the back right of the freezer it makes it so they arent. Im wondering if the sides you are looking at are just to add other shelves or if i am looking at this wrong and i can in fact either adjust or remove these shelves completely?

Nope those shelves are not adjustable so unless your carboy is tiny it won't work. Most older stand up freezers are that way. Not sure if newer ones are the same or not.

Can you remove those top two and plug up the openings somehow? Then you could just rely on the bottom one

Sell it for 2 times what you paid for it and get a different one... I know, not very helpful, but unless you chance bending those shelves up and out of the way (which can be done... see here) you are kinda hosed...

Next step, drill the side to run the temperature probe through.....does anyone know if I can drill the left side of this type freezer without hitting any freon lines?

I have some fermenters that are wider than they are tall that would have fit just fine on those shelves. Would have fit 3 full batches at once.

I do about one batch every 3 months so I think I will be allright
