So, I'm sitting at the office ;) trying to figure out what to make this weekend so I can get my ingredients on the way home to get my starter rocking. Considering my inventory of saved yeast (English Ale, Amer Hefe, Beligum Wit) I opt to do a Wit again. As time flies though I now recognize this yeast (3 slurry bottles) has been in the fridge for 3 months.

All you slurry savers out there, do I dare chance using this? If I had notta on hand, I probably wouldn't choose making the Wit but if I get the grains and later find out by Friday night I'm SOL I'd be making another run to the HBS... I've not gone this long with saved yeast yet so this is new ground for me .

it might work. it might not. I've read you can save the stuff in the fridge for "several months" so I guess you are in that range.

make a starter and see what happens, is all I can suggest.

Is it the entire slurry or did you wash it? Entire slurry may still be good, but will have the bittering hops in there too.

What kind of bottle is it in? Flippie? Sealed? It may spew out with force.
BE CAREFUL - open it with a wash cloth covering the bottle to be safe.

Jug/Growler? No problem... make a starter and smell it...then taste it. If all's OK there then it should be OK to use. :D

Not washed, just learned of that this past week I believe. 3-16oz flippies each about 1/3 full. Yea, been there with not burping them; a wee bit of pressure can build. Growler is my starter vessel of choice. It's way late but a starter must be created NOW!!! :drunk:
