From White Labs' web site:

American Ale Yeast blend:
Our most popular strain is WLP001-California Ale yeast. This blend celebrates the strengths of California - clean, neutral fermentation, versatile usage and adds two other strains that belong in the same" clean/neutral" flavor category. The additional strains create complexity to the finished beer, and will taste more lager like than just WLP001. Hops flavors and bitterness are accentuated, but to the extreme of WLP001. Slight sulfur will be produced during fermentation.

Anyone know the specifics of this one? What are the 2 other mystery strains? If I had to guess I'd say WLP008 (East coast Ale) and WLP051 (California Ale V). FWIW, the White Labs customer service will NOT tell me what the other two strains are.

I'm considering using it in my next batch, a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale cloner. I know I could use 1056 and be done with it, but I have a vial of the WLP060 in my fridge that I want to use. This batch seems like a perfect match. Anyone used it, or know anything about it? TIA!

I made an american amber with it, and it turned out pretty damn good. One note I will say that when you make your grain bill, or if your cloning a recipe, tweak the recipe a little and pick your favorite grain you like and add it, because the malt flavor really comes through. If your not going to clone pick a spicy neutral hop like tettnang because higher alpha acid hops will over power. hope this helps

So essentially what you are saying, a beer with Chinook, Centennial and Cascade will overpower this yeast? :D

I'm using regular Schrier pale 2 row. Should I switch it to Maris Otter or something a little more expensive?

Schrier 2 row is just fine. About the hops I would cut back on the Ibu's a little, because ive experienced that even though this yeast blends the hops and the malt flavor well, higher alpha acid hops tend to over power the malt a little, and spicy hops come through well with this yeast.

I washed yeast for the first time and want to try it out. It is wlp060 that I used for a smash pale ale. I have some leftover fermentables that I thought about making a 2gallon porter with. Can I use this yeast for a porter? the idea is to not spend any money. Thanks ahead of time!!:mug:
