I have a beer sitting on a cake of WLP810 (SF Lager yeast). I was going to bottle that beer then brew a Cali Common (on the same day) and dump it on the cake. Now I'm having second thoughts. I like my wort to go into a clean, sanitized fermenter, not a nasty, gunky one that had beer in it for a month.

So, can I just take a sanitized spoon and scoop up some yeast from the cake and pitch it into my Cali Common? Is that cool? I still plan on washing some of the 810 for later brews.

FWIW, I was planning on doing the same thing with an ESB that's currently being fermented with WLP002. I was going to bottle the ESB, then dump an English IPA on the cake, but again I'm having second thoughts.

Thanks for the input!

I've done this without ill effect. However the safe and clean way would be to wash it all. Which you could pretty easily do.
