Wl 565

I had a vile of White Labs Saison 565. It was about 3.5 months from manufacture date and my brew session wasn't available. I stepped it up to two liters and it performed very well! I cold crashed it in the flask and have about a 100 ml volume of good looking yeast bed. Generally if I step to a 4L directly, I just add 2L and go. I'd like to decant and go another 2L or 4L. Should I expect different results decanting? Advice please.

The way you pour a 4l flask is the same way you pour a 2l flask. sorry couldn't resist, I'm an *******. decanting is just poring off the water and leaving the yeast.

according the Beersmith you lose just 11% of your yeast after 3.5 months. Just take ~%10 off of whatever is come out to be but this would also be within the margin of error since your using a starter. about 350 billion cells

I tried to be clear, but apparently was not. I don't generally cold crash and pour off the wort, usually just step
It up from 2-4 L by adding another 2 L. In that case one would think adding 2L to the yeast alone would result in the same number of cells as the 4 L total starter. Still confused?Whether this is or is not the case I'd like to know.

Also since I'm making a starter I'm decanting wort, not water.

adding 2l of wort to a 2l starter would not be the same as adding a vile to 4l of wort. that said, they would be close, you may get 275B for the 4l vs 300B for by adding 2l to 2l. This example is under very good conditions yours' might be a little lower.
