I want to order some liquid yeast from AHS with the cold pack. The problem is the temps here are high 90s. The good news is because I live in Shreveport the cheap shipping from AHS arrives in one day. Will the yeast be OK?
I think you will be fine with one day. I've ordered yeast before and it took about 3 days in 90-100F heat to get here, the activator pack took several days to inflate but eventually I was able to make a starter that worked.
From the Wyeast FAQ website:
3. Does the package need to be fully swollen before pitching?
No, The package can be pitched before activating, or at anytime during the activation process. The activation process "jump starts" the culture's metabolism, minimizing the lag phase.
Just remember for next time, don't bother waiting for it to inflate.
Even if I'm uncertain that it's still viable?
