Ok, so I have been brewing for over a year now and i have a big but kinda small issue. No matter what style of beer i try to brew i always have the same aftertaste. I mainly go primary for 2 weeks then secondary for 4 weeks, then bottle condition til liking. I am trying to link the taste to something and i dont know if it is excess yeast in the beer giving off flavors. So i thought maybe filtering would help? Or maybe my sanitation technique is poor and its a contaminent that is consistently gettin in my beer. After i think about it, there alot of things i could be doing differently to make better beer, but i just dont have the capital to do so. Basically what i want to know is, if you filter your beer of yeast, do you notice that much of a difference in the flavor?
 
What is the best descriptor of the off flavor taste? The big problem with filtering your yeast and bottling, if you naturally carbonate you might come into issues as you have removed most (if not all) the yeast.
 
This is a pretty wide open topic. Ideally, filtering the yeast out of your beer shouldn't affect the taste as long as you're not drinking the yeast now. In other words, when you pour out of the bottle, don't pour the yeast in the glass. If your sanitation is poor, you shouldn't get the same consistent after taste. To me, AB beers all have the same "Budweiser" after taste, even their Zeigenbock. I attribute that to the same yeast strains and grains. I'm not sure if that's it, but they do have the same after taste to me. A lot of people here will shellac you about not racking by hydrometer reading. Questions like this are one of the reasons why. If you don't have data, most troubleshooting is just a guess. Here are a couple of things to consider:
* Are you using bottled water? If not, is your water the problem?
* Are you brewing a wide variety of styles (IPA, brown, Porter) and still getting that
after taste?
* Are you using the same yeast, grains, and hops in the beers?
