I've done the lager, irish stout, and bitter english. Now, I'm looking for the kit that will give me the most boom for my buck!

Which Cooper's kit has the highest alcohol content? Or which kit can I easily turn into the highest ABV?

Non of the Cooper's kits are in the strong ale category. But I used them to brew my version of the 1890's #3 Burton ale at 6.8%. See my recipes for What to use & how to brew it. Easy & good,it's a rusty amber color with malty goodness & plenty of kick.

You can always add some sugar to up the ABV but the beer will get dry and have more of a hot-alcoholic taste to it that you probably won't like. Adding more extract would accomplish this without the hot-alcohol taste. You'd probably want more IBU's to balance it though. Back up the hop additions to be in the boil longer and you'll be in the neighborhood.

I realize this is "draw a play in the dirt" advice...If you want more specific, ask.

That's basically what I do for an average ale. See my recipes for examples. My recipies give around 4.5 to 5.3%. Save for the Burton ale, which is 6.8%.

Yeah, unfortunately I'm stuck in a situation where I don't have space to order anything and I'm keeping it extremely simple. Right now I'll just experiment will adding an extra cooper's brew enhancer and see how that affects it.

At least use their BE2 if you can't find their plain light DME. Their DME would be the better choice here,as it'll add color & flavor. Not just ABV that'll dry it out a bit.

Why not create your own beer. Its more fun to see what you come up with instead of the premade kits. After my first "kit", I've been making my own, or following a recipe found in the database. All of mine have been over 6.5%, and they average almost 9%.

I've been using cooper's OS cans as a base for my own beers. That's why I suggested a look at my recipes for ideas. Goin to some PM's if I can ever get the $ for stove repairs. But cooper's cans can make a good base for just about any style with the right stuff added.
