I do go to breweries both with people and by myself when I'm not looking to hang out long (I do have weekends full of kid's sports games all year). I'm just talking about the website stuff. I actually do stop by Conclave often. Tim is very friendly as well as the owner of an awesome brewery.
And you know me

Actually, the first item applies here. That's what I'm talking about. You think the NJ thread on BA focuses on crappy breweries? Which ones?

We're circle jerky about each other but not the breweries in this state. Anything not named Kane, Carton, or Conclave is either mediocre or subpar. Though maybe I'm forgetting a place or two

Well I can't argue with you about that. Those are my three constants. But yeah, being circle jerky about each other was my original point yesterday! It's like eavesdropping on my daughter and her friends.

I hope they're as cute as us!

100% positive that you were doing/saying this as you wrote that:

Referend and Troon :)

Also have always liked Brotherton, but I feel like I haven't seen their stuff around much lately. Then again, I haven't been getting around much (heyyyy-o).

Side note: Now thinking of Board Game BIF team shirts that say "I'm only here for the circle jerk."

I haven't tried Troon but have heard really good things. Didn't we have a Referend beer at axeman9182's? That was banging. And agreed I've liked most everything I've had from Brotherton. I knew I forgot a few!

We did! It was the Sanctus, which someone (you? Ben?) called "St Lam light." Their **** is wonderful, and I probably owe Jspriest another visit. :) We should all hang out there sometime.

That's a shame. Their IPAs were always solid and good options for crowlers/growlers. I only had a few Three 3's and thought it was fine. Also were good crowler options.

I see you posting those Tonewood cans in the DDT but I don't see them up here. Next time I go home, I'll have to look.

I also know some people really like Spellbound, but I just haven't loved their stuff. Have they gotten better? (You're in that area, right?) I've liked most of what I have had from Magnify too (don't ban me, mods). I'm super irrational though, in that I bitch about driving there, but I'll drive 5+ hours to Vermont. Haha. shrug.gif

Tonewood cans are great fuego and chief imho are awesome . Your best bet go to brewery

Spellbound I'm big fan of but there my most local spot and most convient option. Some stuff is def better then others

Brotherton was making great stuff but it's all about valenzano

A nicer sleeper is eight and sand IPA

Michael asked me to post this to address any concerns with Mexican Brunch:

Hey guys-

We are aware of a few incidents of bottles of Mexican Brunch foaming out when opened. We obviously take any potential issue regarding quality control very seriously and we are looking into it more. I just wanted to take this opportunity to address our quality control process so you have an understanding of what the beer goes through prior to release.

We have always had an increased focus on quality control testing for all our bottled and canned beers, but over the last 6-12 months we have spent a tremendous amount of resources building out our lab equipment and personnel. Like all of our bottled and canned products, we tested Mexican Brunch in the brite tank prior to packaging, and bottles from each of the fill heads on our bottling line post-run for biological contaminants. In the case of an adjunct beer like this, we test after each new ingredient is introduced to the process to ensure the beer remains clean during the process—both by traditional lab plating and electronic testing means. Every test throughout this process came back negative for beer spoiling contaminants which is why we are confident there is no contamination issue with this beer.

The other potential issues with foaming concerns CO2 volumes (carbonation level) in the beer. Once we invested in a canning line we also bought a Gehaltemeter to measure CO2 and oxygen levels in beer. This is to ensure that our beer is being packaged at our desired carbonation level, and to measure oxygen pickup in our beer to keep it as low as possible. Mexican Brunch was tested in the bottle after packaging at around 2.4-2.45 volumes of CO2, so we are confident that, as a whole, the bottles were not overcarbonated.

The other outstanding issues that could have caused foaming in these instances are fill levels, nucleation points, and temperature. High fills with increased nucleation points from spices and higher temperature could cause foaming. This is what we are looking into now. Since we have opened bottles at the brewery without issue we don’t want to rush to judgment on what, if any, the issue is. We’d like to get a better understanding of what might have caused these reported issues before we come to any conclusions. As always, if you have any questions or issues with our bottles, or any of our beers, please contact me directly. mkane @ kanebrewing.com

FTFY!

St Lam Lite is high ******* praise. We're getting some Western Jersey (totally a real geographical appellation unlike mythical CNJ) Cab Franc grapes next month to go onto puncheons of #notlambic. So we'll see how that goes.

I haven't visited recently and I REALLY need to fix that

So... You're saying I should just move?

Had to check in the mirror but yeah, close enough

I was indeed the one would said that. Seriously seriously delicious beer.

What is the big deal if they gush a bit? Those NJ FB groups are posting videos of opening a bottle, waiting 5 seconds, then watching the gush...why not just pour into glass? How is it worthy of a refund and why are they losing their ****?!

Most Hill Farmstead bottles I open gush, but I get that delicious nectar into a glass asap. Except that one time Art wasn't fully open :(

uneducateds believe the gush will be a sign of a problem... also a lot of people were refuting any gushing.. so i think people went a bit crazy being like... look.... look at it gush... see.. i'm not crazy

gushing isn't a big deal, put you glass nearby and start pouring before it's a mess on your counter. Mike posted about any potential issues and said things were tested so i don't believe any off flavors will develop... just more of a reason for people to drink the beer sooner then later and not put these in the cellar for 6+ months waiting for that perfect time to drink them

No offense here but HF bottles aren't a good example in comparing to mexican brunch... unless if by most HF you mean porters or stouts which would be news to me and probably a lot of other people as i don't recollect HF porters or stouts to be gushers

yes the HF saisons will occasionally gush especially if they aren't super cold... most people consuming saisons regularly understand that will happen often

I had a bottle of HF Everett aggressively empty 75% of it's contents all over my kitchen a year or two ago. That being said, the bottle was a 1-2 year old at that point so that may have had something to do with it. I think axeman9182 was around that night to experience the glorious smell that followed.
