So here I am going to be at de Garde this weekend but id rather be back home to celebrate this awesome beer with you guys! Can someone grab me one? Please!

Is it just me or does this have ANTEAD-like b*tthurt written all over it? Timmush this is definitely not a reflection of you but I just see the amount of people commenting on the FB thread and see it becoming another situation of people feeling entitled and complaining due to supply vs. demand constraints.

That being said, I hope I'm very wrong.

It's was a tough decision how to go about selling this beer. I know some of the people who have been visiting us often are going to miss out and that is the worst part. We will have a keg of it to put on later in the year so hopefully they will get to try it. I'm hoping for 99 people showing up on Sunday so they all get one and I can actually have one for myself. :)

Have you actually seen any "butt hurt" or "entitled" (craft beer scene's favorite new overused put-down insult) whining here or on FB? I haven't.

1) Commenting within this thread that butthurt will occur does not mean that said result will happen within this thread. 2) As for FB, I'm just saying that the number of people commenting leads me to believe that there will be an issue of being upset due to supply not meeting demand. 3) I let Tim know privately that my comment isn't a reflection of how he's releasing the beer but moreso that he can't please everyone. 4) Amazing things happen when you explore and post beyond just the NJ thread, you should try it :).

I was speaking specifically about this release. Not sure what your point is for #4. Are you trying to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about because I've only posted on this thread on talkbeer? I recently found this website by accident. I've been on the other beer site a lot longer. Anyway, my point was not to antagonize you but to point out that none of what you're worrying about has actually happened with this release yet.

Just commentary about potential outcomes... that's all. As for being worried, not really worried at all since I know I can't make it on Sunday either.

Entitlement is not always bad, or something people don't deserve to feel. Of course, it often leads to reactions that are bad - otherwise known as butthurt. There are two primary sources of entitlement going into this release:
  1. "I am entitled to a bottle of this beer because I am a super-loyal local Conclave customer who has been supporting the brewery since day one, and all these people showing up for this release are obviously just here for this one beer."
  2. "I am entitled to a bottle of this beer because I bought a bottle of the bourbon."
Even with large bottle releases, some of those who feel entitled to the beer will be shut out. In this case, there aren't even enough bottles in total to serve the number of people who could reasonably fall into one of the two categories above, even if those were the only people allowed to buy the beer. So, there will inevitably be some negative public reactions from those who are less capable of processing disappointment quietly and reasonably.

All Timmush can do is fill up some more bourbon barrels ASAP! :)

I guess my point was more that I didn't actually see any of this behavior here, on BA or on FB yet for this specific release. But, and I know I'm not alone, I also am starting to think that the terms "butt hurt" and "entitled" are starting to be thrown around way too much on these three forums, including used for any even reasonable voicing of any frustration or disappointment for missing an anticipated release. Now, I get as annoyed as anyone at people who are constantly whining, but on beer discussion forums, I think we can spare some sympathy for people to vent a little. I mean, we're here to discuss our love of beer. I do also think that, even though I'm not one to personally go to these long line type releases, that the whale hunting, mule-bringing, trade baiting crowds descending is more of a problem or annoyance than a few locals being "butt hurt" because they got shut out. Finally, although I'll have to miss Sunday's Conclave release, I'm happy to get a chance later to have a sample of this when its kegged. And even then, if I miss out, well I'm sure they'll be something else coming.

so... you're butthurt about the term butthurt?

jklymi

seriously, I know what you mean about the overuse... but there's far more cases of true butthurt than there is misuse of the term butthurt... feel me?
