they opened at 12pm, i figured we would go around 2pm hoping that it would die down a bit so we can just stroll in. that didn't happen....when we showed up the wait was still 2 hours at least just to get a flight of beer. needless to say we didn't stick around, headed over to Magnify brewing instead then grabbed some food and beers at ambulance brew house. much better decision over all. but i'm gonna check out alementary during the week when its not super busy.

FWIW heard a lot of mixed reviews from my friends that did stay there, some saying the beer was pretty meh others liked it..i'll be the judge once i check it out

Assume you have to give them a chance after the crazy first day rush. I'll definitely check them out soon.

Anyone go to Jersey Girl this past weekend?

Ambulance Brew House is legit. Love that place.

Anyone with recommendations of a BYOB place within say 20-25 minutes of the Clifton area?

I can echo everyone's sentiments about Montclair, but since damn near every restaurant in town is BYOB (save for a small handful), you don't necessarily need to have Italian. Ani Ramen is really good. Mesob has amazing Ethiopian food. Villalobos makes some pretty damn good tacos (though they're a little overpriced). Actually, if you want Mexican, I'd send you to El Matador in Bloomfield. That place is ******* amazing. We have a Bare Burger here now, which is very tasty. I ate at a place called Meat-a-tarian a few weeks ago and had a pork belly gyro, which was pretty cool. I think I've only ever eaten breakfast at Uncle Momo, but if you like Lebanese, and the quality of their breakfast is any indication, I can see the dinner menu being outstanding (though the service kind of sucks).

Thats everything I can think of right now off the top of my head.

Anybody going to Barcade's anniversary on Thursday? Braving the hordes for CBS at Cloverleaf on Saturday?

I'm definitely skipping Barcade, but I'm undecided on Cloverleaf.

It was actually a really nice event last year. Very relaxed, everybody got a table, and everything moved pretty quickly.

To be honest though, I'm more interested in that stuffed french toast than I am the beer.

Yeah, that's a pretty big part of the draw for me, that french toast is pretty much god tier for me when it comes to breakfast food. I'll probably end up lining up to get in when they open so that we can get out quickly and get into the city for concert pre-gaming.

I don't get into Montclair that much but totally agree on Mesob. Amazing food and the smell you get the minute you walk into the place - wonderful. One of our favorite places. We try to get there maybe 2-3 times a year.

I will add that Clifton Thai has been awesome every time I've gone. Especially with the nice weather they can open the French doors. Excellent food, service and prices. Casual experience.

Giotto (as mentioned above) is fantastic but a bit pricey and little dressy. Special occasion spot for me personally.

I love Ambulance, it's become my local watering whole. They always have some great stuff on tap and it is never crazy busy. I live 2 minutes away, and use any excuse to get there.

I have a standing offer for any TB member that I will buy a pint for you if you message me and I can make it there.

Only been there once for that 'breakfast' event with a bunch of stouts (mainly coffee based) and it was a cool place to hang. Need to go back when it's not crazy.

Eddie's Roadhouse is another close to the border place to go to. Food is unreal there and the tap list never disappoints.

lol i was gonna go to the coffee brunch event too the tap list was great. but we had my friends bday share the night before and we were all super hungover...so that didn't happen. never been to eddie's roadhouse i'll check it out sometime.

probably heading back over to ambulance next week after the kent falls event at DeCicco's. i know this is the nj thread, but if you're in north jersey you're definitely close enough to all the spots mentioned. well DeCicco's is obviously not close at all...but you know what i mean.

One of these days if I'm up that way riding solo I'll shoot you a message and take you up on this.

Tried to get into Eddie's one day and they had an hour wait. We went down the street to another place (name escapes me) and they had Rushing Duck Baby Elephant on tap, which alleviated some of the disappointment of not getting into Eddie's. Then I went to Bev Plus 2 and we all know what happens when you go there.

To piggyback on regularjohn 's point, this is a NJ thread and I don't want to belabor it too much but it's worth noting just how great it is to see the beer culture expanding in the Hudson Valley. Warwick, Chester, Nanuet, Newburgh, Peekskill, etc., it's great to see and provides us in north Jersey with more options. Love going to Kane and Carton when I can, but when we get to summer I always tend to go north and not south, plus I try to avoid the shore whenever possible once the kids are out of school.
