I did a batch of Brewer's Best Milk Stout and am disappointed with the results. I followed the instructions and didn't have any problems until I tasted the finished product. Fermentation signs were low (not much bubbling) but I did verify fermentation with a hydrometer. The gravities were close to what the instructions said they should be.

The problem is the beer has almost no "body", it tastes like beer flavored water. I would compare it to a lager with the color of a stout. I was expecting more body and some creaminess but I got none of that.

I'm trying to figure out what I did to screw up. I let it ferment for a week and secondary for a few days, so I did rush it a bit as I was excited to try it. Is that the culprit?

What was the OG and FG? Did you verify that it was at FG with multiple readings?

How long has it been in the bottles?

I've never done a stout, but I would say that a week in the primary is too short for any beer.

I don't have them off hand, I'll have to check my notes at home. I did check the FG on subsequent days and it was no longer changing.

I kegged it last Friday, so it's been in there since then.

Put that key where it is room temperature and leave it alone for about 4 months and then chill it and taste. Stouts take a long time to mature. I have one bottle left of a batch I made 2 years ago and it it superb. While you are waiting for this beer, make a pale ale. It will be mature and gone before your stout hits its peak.

Did you end up with a FG in the 1.020 - 1.025 range?
Also did you use any lactose or maltodextrin in the beer? Those make a significant impact for mouth feel in stouts.
