Apparently, I ordered from AHS while drinking. I figured out most of the stuff I ordered, but I now have 5 ounces of US saaz hops. Now, I must have been thinking about a pilsner I guess but I didn't order any lager yeast.

Anybody want to take a drunken guess as to what I was thinking when I ordered five ounces of US saaz hops? (Extra points for recipe ideas).

what yeasts do you have?

Just "general" ale yeast- so4, s05, pacman. Since I make a ton of IPAs and APAs, that's the yeast I generally have in the summer. No lager yeast, kolsch yeast, or California lager yeast.

You were thinking:

"Heh. Saaz. The name is funny.

Saaz.

SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHZ!"

That is probably true. That's as good as explanation as any. I mean, if I was thinking of an American style pilsner, I should have ordered the yeast.

DeadGuy clone? That is how I would use them at least.

Maybe. But the Dead Guy uses like 1/4 ounce of saaz. I ordered 5 ounces! That's a lot of DG!

I'll see if Bob will be willing to stop at Northern Brewer on Saturday in Minneapolis. I'll have a cooler, so maybe I'll grab some yeast and make either a lager or kolsch. The kolsch is a great idea, actually!

Remember you were drinking.

I was all over that - but, of course Ms Lorena seems to have ignored (probably on purpose)

- although 4905 is lost, and you'd think she would accommodate us...

From the avatar, I'm not sure the problem was drinking.
Seems that you were distracted by a nice looking grandchild. Congrats.

So does Saaz work well as a pacifier?

Houblon Chouffe (Belgian Tripel IPA) finishes with Saaz. Stuff is fantastic.

hoppy saaz blonde with pacman

maybe the yellow fizzy beer in your dropdown as the grain base, but use 5oz of saaz instead of any of the other hops.

I have no idea what you're talking about! :p

That's a great idea! I think that would be a winner!

Sure, it was "Lost!" Riiiiight, I never did buy that argument!

Oh, it's not linking correctly anymore, not sure if I have a backup, got deleted somehow, yaddaa, yaddaa, yaddaa...

Thats easy yoop.. make a Bo Pils..

95% Pils
5% Cara-Foam

Shoot for 35-38 IBU

60min saaz
10min saaz
1 min saaz

Yeah, but I don't have any lager yeast at the moment. I think I just have to suck it up and get some, though. While all of the other ideas sounds great, a bo-pils is probably just what I really want. If I can scrounge up some more saaz, though, I'll try BK's recipe. I do think it's ironic that I have five ounces of saaz I don't know what to do with, and I'm considering buying MORE now. :D

You could always try the saflager.. im not sure how well it works but it would save you from having to grow 10 vials worth of yeast

Funny we were talking about this! About 1/2 hour ago, my phone rang. It was a lady who's opened a mini-LHBS about 45 miles away. She doesn't carry much, but sometimes you can order stuff and she'll get it eventually.

She called me and mentioned she was doing an order tonight and would I like anything? Well. I answer, "Well, Penny, I know you don't have yeast. Can you order one vial?". Yep, she can. So, I have her getting some WLP802.

So, a BoPils it is. But..... I've never used US saaz before. Hope they taste like the Czech saaz!
