I agree with most of the comments posted. I will add to this my personal driving commandment, which if more people followed it, would solve some (but not all) of these issues.

Thou shalt not force others to apply their brakes.

This applies most to intersections, pulling/merging into traffic, etc. There are exceptions of course. If you are driving along and someone is being agressive/speeding an the breaking is due to their driving, that is something else. Although sometimes it is safer to just get out of the way.

My one pet peeve is cruise control passing. Especially when you in the right lane and are coming up on another car going slower in your lane. Then there is a car, immediately to your right, blocking you from changing lanes. They'll just sit their cruising along and eventually you have to put on your brakes (commandment violation). I will speed up and change lanes when I see this coming to prevent from getting boxed in. I will then maintain the speed until I'm passed the slow vehicle and then pull over. I don't want to make them slow down.

My son is a brand new teenage driver. First driving lesson I gave him was "Everybody else on the road is a complete and total idiot. Every single one of them will do the stupidest possible thing at the worst possible time. Be prepared." He looked at me and said "Even you?" I replied "If I'm not in the car with you, then yes."

That's not far off--good idea

That's exactly how you survive on a motorcycle, expect not to be seen, expect to be cutoff, always have a way out.

The only problem is,everybody else is thinking the same thing! The worst are the ones that think it's their sworn duty to teach YOU how to drive. But,it is like they say, those that can't do...teach!

It's not hard to be courteous to other drivers. As Tubabeer above, I try to pass people without blocking. Move around as quickly as practical and then clear the left lane for others. If someone is coming up on the left, and they are not working to prevent me from being cut off, I will merge over, and pass quickly, and then get out of the way.

I've also hear din some states it's proper to zoom down the lane that is ending and merge at the last second. Here in Michigan it's very likely you will have a hard time merging because most people here accept the rule that you start your merge as soon as you are aware of the lane ending (usually about 2 miles back).

If everyone merged 2 miles back, when the openings are usually more readily available, then traffic as a whole can continue to move at a relatively quick pace. The slowdowns occur when people who are already slowed from the lane ending, try to get into the other lane.

Oh, there's plenty of stuff out there to get riled up about. Don't get me started on idiots who think the shoulder is an excellent place to pass someone on the right as they are making a left-hand turn...

What pisses me off the most is the driver that's in the passenger seat... the one with the breasts..

I am not sure about Michigan, but this is perfectly legal on two lane roads in Texas. It is actually quite annoying when traffic is backed up because nobody wants to pass the guy stopped in traffic trying to make a left turn on a busy road.

That worked when she was my girlfriend, now she is my wife and gives the middle finger and " the look".

+1. I honestly don't know if it's technically legal or not, but I've done that plenty of times around cops and never gotten pulled over for it, or heard of anyone who has. As long as the location is fairly open (no places for pedestrians to hide or anything), it strikes me as a lot safer for traffic to go around to guy taking the left than for it to back up (and someone gets rear-ended).

This leads to another problem though, that also ticks me off. Sometimes, on a two lane road two cars will be attempting to turn left at an intersection, both coming from opposite directions. Normally, both cars would just take their left turns, crossing in front of each other and then the cars behind could proceed, but, oh no, not around here. Neither car can take a left turn, because the people behind them are so impatient they are all coming around on the right at full speed and the two people waiting to turn are just sitting there until all the f-ing cars behind them come around. Oh, and people that choose, on a wide open freeway to travel right in your blind spot. Hello, that is the WORST possible place you can be moron, but they will just tool along mile after mile in ignorant bliss. Hey, don't bother thinking about safety while you're driving friend. I'll just go ahead an do that for both of us.

Most of my issues have already been mentioned.

Being born and raised in Chicago, then moving out to AZ I have seen all kinds of jackassery on the roads.

One thing that really bothers me out here is the fact that when on a stretch of road the left lane is moving damn near the speed of sound and the right lane is moving at the speed of smell. when we all approach a stop light and come to a stop, when the light turns green the right lane boosts off like they are in the Indy 500 and the left lane just releases the brake and putters slowly back to light speed. if you try to hop into the right lane to get around the left lane people, the right lane is already at their 10 mph under the limit speed so you get blocked in for mile as the fast lane slowly goes past.

If you are in the fast lane and were just recently doing 85-90mph, STEP ON THE FVCKING GAS!!! its like everyone in the fast lane is stuck in high gear and cannot accelerate.

Thou shalt not force others to apply their brakes.

This was an unwritten rule that my dad taught me as soon as I started driving. The road would be a much better place if more people were considerate enough to do this.

I feel the same way.
I just might change my mind and make a right instead or forget that I am not pulling a trailer and SWING WIDE and accidently side swipe your dumb ass for not waiting your turn!

Three things:
Talking/texting while driving. Put your damn phone down, you're not that important, trust me.
Driving slow in the fast lane. I run late and drive fast. Get out of my damn way.
Slowing down all lanes of traffic to gawk at an accident, of which was probably caused by one of these three things.

This was at the time your 2000th post. What a waste. Why are you in the right lane getting passed by a truck and blocking traffic?

Im not blocking traffic a semi happens to be going slower in the left lane,im in the right doing a little over the speed limit, guy comes charging up on me,im just sayin im not goin 10 over the speed limit because a semi is not getting in the right lane. I dont feel sorry for someone that wants to do 15 over the speed limit that cant get past a semi. He should get up earlier to get to work. When someone gets up your ass they need to back off. They do this crap in the winter too, i always try to stay away from the idiots.
Also if you want to see a waste. This 2001 post was probably a waste.

Doesn't really affect me, but I cn see how this would drive truck and bus drivers nuts: as WE all know, there are stop lines at intersections. Cars are supposed to stop behind them. Sometimes those lines are at angles which, duh, leaves adequate room for busses and trucks to turn off of the cross street. Yet some dumb@$ses drive all the way to the corner before stopping, thus making it impossible for trucks and busses to turn.

I've actually seen car drivers get into shouting matches with bus drivers because the car driver thinks the turning bus is encroaching on their space or something and the bus driver is yelling for the car to back up.

I get irritated when a road is blocked off or restricted by an accident, not a multi car accident, but a single car, and it is on its roof on a straight as a rail surface street with a 25mph speed limit.

How the hell do they get their cars rubber side up under those conditions?? And it is almost a daily issue out here, the traffic guys refer to it as the breakfast roll.

People that don't pass cops who are driving five mph below the speed limit. No, actually, cops that drive five mph below the speed limit just to see how many people that can get behind them...

Pftt! I recall recently a cop blazing past me when im doing 65. Seen him blow a stop sign and no turn signal.wtf?
HA HA, They get off on seing the line of well behaved drivers behind them,it gets them a funny feeling in their middle-parts.

Yeah, anybody else notice the "younger generation" always looking in there lap texting?Driving straight ahead looking down. And there big stoopid sunglasses are still dumb as ****.

Hey now, I see idiots of all generations doing that.

I agree about the sunglasses, however.
