So I tried my hand at making my own crystal malt with 2-row. Soaked for 4 hours. 2 hours in the oven at 180. Temp in grain never got above 170. Then dried at 250 with convection oven for an 1.25 hours. Then roasted at 350 without convection for 12 minutes. This is the results. A lot darker then I was hoping. What do you guys think the L is for this?

There is a lot of variability in color between the individual kernels, which would make an estimation of the dry grains difficult. What I would do is steep an ounce in a cup of 150F water, and compare it to other grains whose L is known, steeped for the same time, temp and volume, and then compare.

Yeah I figured it wasn't uniform in color enough to categorize it. I will probably just throw it in with some two row and see what it will come up with. Thanks!
