I'm drooling over Passedpawn's pastrami, AZ IPA's Elk & ja09's sous vide steaks.
You know, the food in this thread is so awesome, we could make a cookbook out of this thread.
Regards, GF. :mug:

Agreed, the bar has been raised! That and PP skyrocketed straight to the top of the running for the hottest SWMBO award in the process. Well done sir!

I need a blotter. My mouth is seriously watering over the pastrami, the elk, the steak, and other nomminesses represented on this thread!

We love to make the pastrami too - nothing store-bought comes close to the delectable flavor of a pastrami smoked with nice oak!

haha, that's my oldest son's SWMBO.

Whatever, she's still smokin'. :cross:

I'm also seriously considering going through this thread and making a cookbook. Seriously. As if I don't have enough going on right now. I've often gone back through it looking for dinner ideas or looking up something i remember seeing.

I think a Cookbook would be a great thing.

I like the idea, an HBT Cook Book! I have seen some terrific recipes throughout this thread. Also the homemade bread thread, the pizza thread, clearly some great ideas and good food!

The WDICTW Cook Book is a great idea. Only problem is there is a lot of "I do not have a set recipe, I usually just throw a little of this and that in there" in here.

This is me to a "t":D

Me too. One of the things I love about cooking is how organic it is, add a little taste add a little taste until it's where I want it. I dont bake for that reason add a little to much baking powder or not enough and its ruined.

Baking with baking powder I'll follow a recipe relatively closely, my breads I use my basic formula and wing it from there, I know where I want the dough to be in the end.

I cant get in to baking although fresh baked bread is the best so maybe i should at least give that more of an effort

Ya, I'm guilty of that myself. If anybody is really serious about putting together a WDICTW cookbook, I'd be amenable to going back through my "recipes" & actually measuring out the ingredients and either posting or PMing them, just let me know.
Regards, GF.

Same here, I'd be happy to contribute in any way.

+2 on the cookbook! I'm also a "pinch of this, pinch of that" cook - so not sure how contributory I can be with recipes - but I'd sure love to help edit or whatever!

Tonight - country-style boneless pork ribs with homemade BBQ sauce, ovenroasted green beans which have been first tossed in melted bacon fat and seasoned with a little garlic salt, then roasted at 400* til some of them are browning up a bit. I could just about eat my weight in veggies cooked that way, and I am NOT a huge veggie lover!

So, you do a preface/introduction explaining that many of the recipes are handed down with 'Grandma's Country Measurements' and that although actal measurements may be listed recommend "add to taste" and "feel free to modify".

I think it would be perfectly suitable to label some recipes as less than perfectly measured. I think most people do this, except maybe in the few cases of baking where precision is mostly good.

And Subsailor, I listened to All Fired Up last night on my way to town. Had a short conversation with the wife about the song. They never played the intro portion on the radio and she couldn't figure out what the song was until a little bit into it.

Just weird to think about a deep cut like that one day and then see the same song in someone's sig the next. Next thing you know you will have Pseudo Echo's Funkytown in there!

I have quite an eclectic selection of music on my iPod. Fortunately, I am the supervisor and have a good office for listening to music through the day.

On the book idea, I am perfectly willing to contribute recipes, ideas, country knowledge and even anecdotal stories to round it out. Unfortunately, I am in the process of packaging everything we own (or getting rid of it) to move to Arizona in July/August.
I just sold all of my brewing stuff to a good friend and homebrewer. I am going to start with a new system when I get settled in down there.

If anyone is going to create a cookbook, I think it should be in a format that not only makes finding recipes and cooking them easy, but is also in a format suitable for sharing.

I'm wondering if PDF is the way to go. It could easily be downloaded from this site or hosted somewhere else. It's probably as convenient as any online cookbook site for most people. I don't have a computer in the kitchen all the time, but I could probably load a PDF on my phone or my wife's tablet. Or I could simply print out the page the recipe is on.

PDFs can also be formatted to provide clickable links to the recipe from the menu pages.

HTML is also an idea for compatibility.

If anyone has any other suggestions, let's here them.

If you want to try some sourdough let me know

I love sourdough bread. I assume you have a starter chef? I m definitely interested there arent many thngs better than fresh sourdough with dinner. How difficult/fussy is it to make a good loaf of sourdough?

I can speak for myself and my experience is that it can be QUITE easy once your starter has gotten it's legs. I've only done the No-Knead method to make artisanal loaves, but I thought they were great.

I've currently got a starter languishing in the fridge. I really ought to wake it up and try my hand at some homemade sourdough english muffins.

I may look into building a template for Open/Libre Office. That way I should be able to pass the template around to whoever wants to contribute and they can fill it in and sen the recipes back if they want to. It might take me a little bit to get this done, and I may need some reminding. I'm pretty busy after work most days.
