The Beermeister32 clan is well trained if anything. Check out the timely text I received today from Beer-Loving Daughter #1. Tomorrow is International Beer Day. All I can say besides excellent info is “Let’s get a head start on it today!” Aecht Schlenkerla here we come!

There’s a big place in my heart for Rauchbiers. Their smokiness takes you right back to the 14th Century. Not only does it take you back to Old Europe, but it takes you back to a time when the primary way of drying malt was over a fire. All that smoky goodness finds its way into the beer, and most of the beers of this time and place were likely very smoky indeed.

I can remember when my dear Mother was kicking her nasty cigarette smoking habit, once and for all. She did it in part by eating a lot of Chili Cheese Fritos chips - she was looking for that characteristic bite! If I’d had some Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche to give her, it might have done the trick too! Ugh… but then again maybe not – a couple gulps from a pint of smoky Doppelbock and she might have started up smoking all over again!

8% ABV, kilned over oak wood, it’s a delicious thing. Don’t let the first experience chase you off, it grows on you. Prost!

The Eiche is the best of the Schlenkerla beers, IMO. Great with ribs or a grilled pork chop. It is an acquired taste, but once you acquire it...

Got half a glass of the helles before it kicked, so down the hatch that went. Now a hb cream ale, these light beers were a good idea with this heat, and now tonight I can finally sleep with windows open.

International Beer Day, Huh? Why the heck not break out one of my fav’s, Rothaus Tannenzäpfle! Before we get too far into today’s beer, check out that clarity! This is the way to make a fine German Pilsner!

Advertised as an Original Black Forest Pils, Rothaus, located in Grafenhausen, is the highest elevation brewery in all of Germany. That can make for difficult or at least “different” brewing, as it throws things off as compared to brewing at sea level. It’s also become one of the highest priced, at least for us thirsty commoners here in the States! Bring your big checkbook next time!

OK, OK, I’ve been informed that was a sure Boomer giveaway. Guilty as charged. Well, if you can find it and can actually pay for it, Rothaus Tannenzäpfle is a historic brew, one of my absolute favorite Pilsners. It has perfect flavor balance, perfect head, absolutely wonderful lacing, I just can’t speak highly enough of this beer. At 5.3% ABV, it is a touch on the high end of ABV for German Pilsners - and of course the presentation is lovely. Go out and find some… Prost!

I had a great International Beer Day, although in truth I just learned about that a few minutes ago.

With the cooler weather that set in last night, I jumped at the opportunity to brew this morning. I knocked out a helles by noon and didn't break a sweat, nice! It still took twenty friggin' pounds of ice to hit 50F. Piss off, summer!

Here's a glass of the new batch of Panther Piss to wash down tonight's ALDI store brand brats (which are really good, by the way).

And a pint pot of my new back burner UK best bitter project. It needs a better name than Oi! [my series name for UK ales for Brewsmith purposes] What the $#*$& is this?. I'm trying on Lord Ashley Tosspot's Prize Ale and C.M.O.T Dibbler's Champion Ale for size. Suggestions are welcome.

As a guy that runs his kegs on a very, very low psi, I'm on to you. I see you working. I won't say anything if you don't. Honestly, I'm just trying to keep Claudius off my ass. ;)

There might be some naming ideas here. I kind of like "pip pip gollywock."

lmao, you win the prize for my label. I don't have the faintest idea what that is, but I do know that it is the label for this beer if I ever bottle it. Which is unlikely because I swore off bottling twenty years ago.

Nevertheless, I copied this breathtaking image to a folder. With the way things are going these days, you can't be too paranoid and you'd be a fool to turn down a perfectly good and professionally made label.

Thank you, Snuffy. I am forever at your service. You are the best!
