Woooo, cans?

Starting the grill for burgers. Grandson hasn't complained yet about the red meat feast while G-Ma is gone. šŸ˜

One of the things that got me into home brewing was a strong attraction to the many creative IPA’s which were being produced during the late 1990’s-2010 in California, and across the US. It really was a new style for me.

When we’re talking super-hopped-up beer, it’s one those things that you really like (LOVE!) or you don’t. Not a lot of grey area when we’re talking hops. Sort of like being pregnant – either you ARE or you AREN’T!

So in my case … ā€œHops are good…. Hops are good.… Hops are good….!ā€ That Mantra led me to wanting to produce IPA’s on my own – I was drinking a lot of them, and the fascination with those super hoppy, pungent, piney, resiny, citrusy flavors drew me in. I was hooked! A Hophead!

Yesterday I had a Short’s Brewing Amber Lager. Short’s as we recall is out of Michigan. Their Huma Lupa Licious ā€œMidwest India Pale Aleā€ takes me right back to those early IPA days here in California.

Hey, wait a minute, it says right there on the can – ā€œThe Beer that built Short’s…. 2004!" I believe it! Now that 2004 date is really threading the needle! So much like those early California IPA’s, crystal clarity, 7.7% ABV and an IBU shot through the roof, I say superb job Short’s! Brew On!

I'm pretty sure that qualifies as a salad in Russia.
I enjoyed your joke up until the point when an unintentional mixture of Panther Piss and German lager entered my sinuses. By the time said mixture exited my nose I decided that I didn't like your joke quite as much as I liked it mere milliseconds previously.

Jerk! ;)

Not everyone appreciates a good nasal flush.

Oh my, that looks delicious! That would go down so easy with our heat and humidity. Brutal summer.
Well at 28%, not as fast as one would think. So I had to wash it down with this. Fermentation on my Quad is going a little slower then I'd like so these may be a regular occurrence for a while.

HB Schwarzbier.
Still trying to decide if I want to enter this beer in the little podunk homebrew contest at the county fair this weekend. I already have a couple bottled so I might just to see what feedback I get. There’s no professional judge or anything. Last year it was just the owner of a local-ish brewery and one other random dude who sat in as judges. As an entrant, you also get a sample of all the other entries and get to vote on ā€œPeople’s Choiceā€. I personally think it’s way too roasty for the style.

It looks good from here. ;)

I’m still closing out the Short’s Brews from Michigan this week. Yesterday I had a top-notch IPA from Short's, Huma Lupa Licious IPA. I know, sounds like a Willy Wonka character. Great beer though... Today we’re going over to the Hazy side with their seasonal brew, Pure Michigan Hazy.

Well, Beermeister32 is an IPA fan for sure. I definitely enjoy the Westies, I’m trying like heck to love at least some of the NEIPAs and now this. A Midwest Hazy. What’ll they think of next!

Today’s muddy is a bit on the thin side I’d say. Pours cloudy, and then a big blob of hazing murk at the end of the dump! Tastes OK six gulps in, but honestly I wasn’t too jazzed the first gulp of this. Nowhere on the can shows ABV but looking on the website (which shows dozens and dozens of brews) I find 4.3% ABV and an IBU of 37.9...

Well, it doesn’t seem that hoppy, and the ABV is a bit on the low side - seems a bit watery to the Beermeister32 palate. I’d say stick with that Willy Wonka one… Go Blue…….!

I can taste Gold from here!

Of all the glasses that have been broken over the years, sure glad this one has stayed intact! Can't imagine the price to replace it these days.

A blend ... 33% Blonde Ale, fermented hot with Kveik, Mosaic & Centennial and a Czech Pilsner, 34/70 lots of Saaz. Really tasty. The blonde still needs more conditioning, but in moderation the raw "early beer" is awesome. The Pilsner smooths out the edges. Homebrew blend!

I should have stayed in the ac too, but had to get some chores done, and canned 7pints and 3quarts of pickles from the garden cukes, not doing that inside haha.. also made this hot sauce from garden peppers, Serrano, jalapeno, a few Chiles in there. Nice heat, I'm digging it. Drinking the beer, not the snot.
