HB APA. I didn't get the hops utilization I expected, so it's more like a blonde ale. Still like it. I think I'll stop using the hops spider for a while and just have the hops go commando to see if it gets better in upcoming brews.

Light hop loads go into the pool naked.
I only use my spider for hop stands when the recipe calls for enough hops where I’d be afraid they would clog my kettle spigot. And even then I put the spider in the middle of my IC and use the IC to swirl the wort, forming a whirlpool. They seem to get quite incorporated this way, maybe not as good as if naked but no complaints so far. My last beer had an 8oz hop stand, and when I pulled the spider there was nothing but wet mush in the bottom. The beer, a neipa, turned out fantastic, though it also had 13oz of dry hops.

HB WCIPA. If I had to choose a hop combo once and forever it would be this one: Simcoe, Citra and Mosaic. This one is 1:2:2 oz hot side (Simcoe at 5 min boil, Citra and Mosaic @20 min WP at 185). 1 oz of Warrior @ 60. Then dry hop 3:2:1 Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe Cryo. Really a great beer! Cheers!

A couple of SG samples.

Graham's English cider. 1.009 so still some to go but very nice sweetness and apple notes. Pondering whether to stabilize when it's done, backsweeten with juice and bottle still.

Ginger beer. 1.002 so pretty much done. Kinda hot but good flavor. Sweetened with some monk fruit and it was pretty tasty.

Both obviously need more time to condition and clear but I had to do the QA checks!

Wife went out to dinner with son and DiL. She knew I was running low, guess because of all the complaining 🤔. Anyway, not knowing anything about beer, even after all these years, she picked up a couple of random beers. These are really good especially the Mexican Amber. When I can brew again planning on doing one of these.

Homebrewed sessionish IPA (90% 2-row, 9% munich 10L, 1% flaked wheat, OG: 1055, FG: 1014, ibu 46 from Cascade and late Citra, S-04).
Probably a stretch to call this an IPA, but regardless, I'm really digging this beer. Gonna re-brew soon, with better processes to minimize oxidation.

Flaked wheat: it does a beer's foam body good!

I went back to my spider for the same reason after I suffered a couple of whirlpool clogs in the pump and in my output nozzle in the kettle. Then it occurred to me that if I simply let the hops steep for 10mins before kicking the pump on, they'll disintegrate completely and I can run the whirlpool rig without any chance of clogging.

Upon making this realization I banged my head against the wall for a few minutes while calling myself some genuinely hurtful names.

This collaboration between Equilibrium and The Eighth State Brewing Company is 🔥🔥🔥!!!
Perfect for a cold grey day!
Untappd description:
Following blending Taconic bourbon and rye barrels, we added the Window of Opportunity adjunct schedule of flaked coconut, cacao nibs, marshmallow, and graham cracker.
A dense pour reveals an aroma of bourbon-frosted brownies and toasted coconut. Flavors include chocolate cake batter, cream of coconut and whisky-filled chocolate bonbons, toasted coconut macarons, and granola with a touch of brûléed brown sugar. The viscous mouth feel coats your tastebuds with a silky and decadent caramel honey finish that meets a deep cocoa barrel character and a touch of oaky rye spice, balancing the adjuncts with a welcomed complexity, making Barrel Aged Window of Opportunity a recent favorite.

One great thing about the expansive and temperature controlled Beermeister32 Bierhoard is the ability to pick any of a large number of delicious Ales and Lagers and a moment’s notice. I find I get in these moods and sometimes it is great finding several examples of the same beer type and compare between different breweries.

That’s the case with today’s brew choice – a Hacker-Pschorr Munchner Gold Lager! Munchner Gold is another delicious and Malty Helles. Yesterday I had a Hofbräuhaus Helles, today’s brew is a similar brew by another of Munich’s primary brauereis, a 5.5% ABV gold colored Helles Lager.

Hacker and Schorr merged in 1972. Before that, Hacker traces lineage to 1417, and Pschorr back to 1797. I’ve always loved Hacker-Pschorr, and jumped on their website recently. I’m super happy with these tall cans, keeping the beer fresh and well-protected from UV light. I didn’t see a Pilsner on the current beer roster however.

So as I enjoy this tasty Helles, I can’t stop thinking how great it would be if Hacker-Pschorr had a nice Pilsner too. I’m sure they’ve made Pilsner over the years, time to step it up! A ready market ready to be "tapped!” Prost!

First glass from the cold ipa I brewed back in early March, kegged in April, and used gelatin for the first time ever. It works! I need to take a better picture next time, this shot was kind of an afterthought. If not for the condensation it'd appear even brighter.

I usually have to wait for the last third of a keg to pull a beer this bright. I tossed maybe half a glass from the fresh keg, then filled this one. It's quite enjoyable in a dialed-down-from-my-usual-dipa way. The Spousal Unit is quite happy with it as well as she likes bright beers a bit more than hazies.

Cheers!
