HB Munich Helles still going. No brewing until this darn leg heals up.
A few beers back I had a green-glass stored Dos Equis that I wasn’t too thrilled over. Which just goes to show if you hit up enough gas stations in the SoCal area, you never know what you might find. I found this great 24 ounce stovepipe of a beer in a wonderful can in the beer case behind the motor oil and air fresheners! Cans are great, they shield the beer from mis-handling perfectly. Is this can better than the bottle I drank? By a long shot!
So, we’re giving Dos Equis a Mulligan today. Really it’s an entirely different beer. While the mis-handled beer had taken on an old, library-book "essence," this one is a fresh and delicious Lager, along the lines of the other canned Mexican beers I’ve had this week. At 4.2% ABV, it’s another that might as well be a substitute for water! This one holds a head for a bit and even shows some lacing on the glass. Impressive!
Like the others, I saved the limes for the second half of the glass. With limes, you may as well think you’re drinking a Corona. I’d like to point out one other thing about these Mexican Lagers so far – it’s the outstanding clarity of the brew. Take that all you Faux German beer brewers from last month! These traditional beers (and yes, Mexican Lagers also trace German heritage) should have a pencil-point polish on them. Clarity is a must! Dare I say it?.... Prost, Sénior…..!

I made my signature Chinese dish tonight, [name of meat here] That Must Go. Tonight's fridge cleaning iteration was Beef That Must Go with fresh Thai peppers. Here's some PP Bum Strength to help put out the fires.
SA Oaked Vanilla Porter. Definitely get the oak, maybe a tad too much for me. Vanilla is subtle but there. Pretty good beer, 5.8%.

Golden Monkey while trying out a new induction setup. I wanted a dedicated system for 1-2 gallon batches. $5 induction top I got from an Amazon liquidation auction and a $20 pot from Walmart. Checking the boil off rate. So far so good.
Hb neipa, not as orange as pic suggests. Citra, galaxy, strata.
Golden Monkey was my first Belgian style beer (while visiting friends in Philly.) Really enjoyed it! So, when my club had an Iron Brewer internal competition that required a double mash process, I decided to do a pumped up clone which came out at something like 16 - 16.5% ABV (OG 1.119 - 1.120, FG 1.010) and it won Iron Brewer that round. I named it Golden Gorilla, and referred to it as an Imperial Belgian Triple. Served it at Club Night at NHC in Portland, OR in 2018. @Yooper had some of this.
This was also where I got to meet @Yooper in person, and she is so far the only other HBT admin/mod I have actually met and talked to.

That’s a great story! It is a great beer, especially for being $3 at a random grocery for 19oz of it. I remember that! And it was really great. And meeting you was also great. It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to a HomebrewCon (since before Covid) and that is one of the things I miss most- meeting people and drinking their beer.
I’ve met quite a few HBT members, some still active, some not, and become real friends with a few.
I was drinking some of my German pilsner last evening, and I’m going to keg a west coast IPA later today.

Light citrus (tangerine peel) wheat beer from Aldi. Definitely light in body, flavor, calories (95) and alcohol (4%). $8/6 pack. Not much to it but not bad.
Today is Pacifico Day at Beermeister32 Labs. It’s a day very similar to Dos Equis Day, and Corona Day, and Tecate Day, and Modelo Day, still steeping myself deep into the Mexican brew project!
You can probably guess what I meant by that – these brews are VERY similar, I’m sensing a lot of the same thing that happened to the American brew industry in the 1960’s – 80’s. Very similar beers from the usual sources. Which led to consolidation and eventually a craft beer movement growing up in such force to affect the traditional brewers in America. These Mexican beers are good, they are very “BMC-ish” and delicious clean Lagers. They are all so similar though, you really have to be looking for small things which might differentiate them from each other.
Pacifico is another great Lager, and another low alcohol brew – 4.4% ABV. Obviously these beers are to be drank in volume! Either that or their brewers are trying the keep the price point / cost down with these diminutive malt bills. Assuming that’s malt, right? Or whatever I’m drinking…. HA! Tastes great, good clean Lager, you will enjoy with a lime!

I did order the German Pils here at Trillium and he said it tastes very much like the beers from home. So I would say well done Trillium for your German Pils.
