I had a Japanese rice lager with lemongrass last summer. It was perfect for August and so memorable I’m planning to make a lager with it this year. It was interesting, I thought the lemongrass came through more like a dry hop, like Citra or similar. I have to read more about this.
This had lime zest. It was a very refreshing lager.

Today I’m doing cleanup of some of the great brews in my collection. Dark Star is a terrific Imperial Oatmeal Stout from Fremont Brewing out of Seattle.

Back story – During the Holiday Season my family was spread out in two groups – the SoCal contingent and another up in Seattle. As a fun get together, all eight of us put in picks for different beers, wines and ciders. The others in the group purchased identical drinks and we all enjoyed these together over the cell phone face time for a couple hours. It was a lot of fun – each person talked about their choice and we all were able to experience the same drinks separated by the miles – and voted appropriately!

Left over was some of this tasty Dark Star which I’m enjoying today. More back story – I hear the words “Dark Star” and it rattles around in my musical head – and takes me back to my mis-spent youth up in the Seattle area. 1977 I was tuned up and listening to 102.5 KZOK in Seattle – Seattles’s best rock! I remember CSN (Crosby Stills and Nash to you youngun’s!) being played over and over in the song rotation, and this great tune “Dark Star” was one of the regulars.

So here Beer-Loving Daughter #2 is now back in Seattle and her husband’s pick is Dark Star out of Seattle! Wow, what goes around comes around!

This hunny is a heavyweight – rich Imperial Oatmeal Stout, 8% ABV and very silky from the oatmeal addition. I have two of ‘em here in my beer glass, a real knockout punch I save for weekend reviews like this. Chocolatey and roasty, but neither overpowering, considering how much other dark brews and coffees that come out of the Northwest, this fits right in. Hides the 8% ABV well!

“Let the memory of the evening be the first thing that you think of when you open up your smile and see me, Dark Star………………….” Sounds like that song applies nicely to this beer! Maybe that’s what they were thinking. Great Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Give it a try!

Pretty good.
Been outside helping my daughter in the corrals and barn all day… her FFA ewe sheep started having babies a little earlier than we anticipated. I thought I had another week to go before we needed to watch them a little more closely.
Inside thawing out now.

HM lemon wine, 11%. This is Skeeter Pee that I bottled without backsweetening on 08/08/2020. Of course, it was way too tart to drink by itself then but my intent was to mix with Crystal Light lemonade when I wanted to drink it. This got stuck back and I found it a while ago. It is very drinkable after 4.5 years! Nice lemon flavor, a touch of tartness, a touch of sweet, good stuff.

Somehow managed to buy quite a bit of beer today, and I had some stuff in the fridge that didn’t need to be there. So Athletic and v8s got moved to top of vs in fridge.

It was cold and hadn’t had one in awhile, so I chugged the Athletic IPA. Had forgotten how tasty those stupid things are. Which put me in the mood for a real beer. Local goto available at Costco.

How are those Armenian beers? Never saw one before.
Pretty good. The pale lager is nicely hopped and has a nice hop aroma. It reminds me of Pilsner Urquell. The dark lager is on the dry side with chocolate notes. A nice break from the sweeter Vienna style dark beers that are more prevalent in the stores in Los Angeles.

Was at the store yesterday and saw a 6 pack of this marked down to $7.99. I like their pale ale and a couple others so seemed like a good idea.

Net return is yep, good idea.

I've noticed a bunch of Einstok in my local Total Wine, 7 varieties. I might have to check out the Doppel, though it won't be $7.99.
