With a belly full of chicken piccata and pappardelle, I've decided to treat myself to a third regular-sized beer--maybe it'll help the baseball-sized cramp in my left calf?

When it comes to cramping, this is the best. "Idiocracy" jokes aside, electrolytes are very important for cell/muscle function. This is the best Potassium supplement on the market. The others, sodium, magnesium and calcium are easier to obtain with house hold products. I'll load up on this about an hour before a planned walk. Never a cramping issue, even on a 13mile hike in the heat.

On the beautiful Labor Day we are enjoying awesome Margaritas out by the pool honoring the late great Senior Parrot Head, Jimmy Buffett. God Speed and rest in piece. We Gulf Coast folks hold a special appreciation for the music and inspiration he bestowed upon us. You will be dearly missed Sir Parrot Head.

It's that time of year when I start thinking that this will be the year that I boldly sally forth to a local orchard and get on with the important business of making a proper cider.

Next month, I'll look at the prices and do what I always do. Specifically, brew some low-gravity swill and regret being a cheap SOB for another year. ;)

Speaking of low gravity swill...

This is Panther Piss Butt Wiper. It's supposed to be the final nail in the coffin of my pandemic Panther Piss North American adjunct lager project, but I've written that about twenty times before. I finally decided to break down and just brew Budweiser, subbing out the corn in the Panther Piss adjunct package for wheat. I was lazy and cheap on brew day and decided not to reach up to the top shelf on my specialty grain rack and instead used some flaked wheat hanging out on a lower shelf. It seemed like a Budweiser thing to do, so I rolled with it.

I prefer corn, it adds something to the beer. I should probably do this again with malted wheat, but I'll have to buy some domestic wheat for that. Not sure if it's worth it. Corn is better.

I’m pretty sure Budweiser uses rice. I also prefer corn.
 
Regarding your remarks about hazies, I'm right there with you, but I've lived and brewed through the crystal bombs of the early 90s, the IBU wars of the mid-90s, the Belgianification of everything during the late 90s, the Imperialization of everything during the early Oughts, etc.

This will pass, although I think this trend will stick around a lot longer than prior fad beers.
From your lips to Gods ears - I’ve never understood the fascination with hazies. If your beer is hazy the Germans have entire textbooks on how to fix that.

[Edit] Put differently, it's kinda funny how I started brewing to rebel against fizzy yellow swill. Now, I'm brewing brewing fizzy yellow swill to rebel against "good beer." It's a funny ol' world we live in.

With you again, though I wouldn’t say I began brewing to rebel against anything. I thought it would be a useful skill. And a hobby with a more rewarding output than some others. But I feel the same now when the crazy hazies and the mango pistachio sours are considered “normal” and people are putting “clean beer” or “clear beer” in another category and talking about it like the people who brew it are weirdos - then yeah, I guess today I am a weirdo

These folks make a great west coast IPA, but they tend to over-hop most of their beers. But this is a malt bomb, and perfect.

The beer nerd in me needs to point out that they have misspelled “dunkel,” and also that I can’t think of any reason that an “imperial” dunkelweizen isn’t a weizenbock.

I’m pretty sure Budweiser uses rice. I also prefer corn.
That's how I understand it, too. My adjunct package for the Panther Piss series settled on 20% corn, 10% rice. This recipes used 20%flaked wheat, 10% rice. I don't know a whole lot about Bud, but I'd wager the reverse is more accurate, with more rice than corn. That would make a better beer, but I'm calling this a dry hole that isn't worth exploring.
 
Received some good news today. Passed my 24hr blood pressure test with results that were described as "spectacular, not for your age, but spectacular." Nice to see all the work is paying off--and that something on this old carcass is still working.

Decided that was excuse enough to break out the Nonic and enjoy a proper pint of my 3.5% ordinary bitter.

Thanks for the reminder about honey malt! Years ago, I did Zainasheff's 60/ recipe with honey malt and was really impressed with the honey malt. Frankly, I thought it was a sorta crap 60/ but it was a really nice beer.

I'd like to try it in a mild, I think it would be very useful for "filling in the gaps" in a mild's flavor spectrum.

I'm not the drinker I used to be. But I could pound out 12%er BA Russian Imperial Stouts (multiple) on a 105F day and be proud of that! 🤔

I asked to change my nick when I thought I'd quit forever. Did lose 50lbs after 7 months (low carb/high fresh veggies/ vitamin/mineral diet) but the little I drink now easily goes to my belly so it's here and there. F-It!, We don't live forever! Yep, the OLD Pianoman account started the Home Brew Trade (not the new).

Walking is the best exercise, fyi. Weights can come later. If you get bored, like absurdly bored, look the history up.

(Need a beer after all that typing!)

In my humble opinion, Trumer Pils makes the finest Continental style Pilsner, yet made in Berkeley, USA. Yes, THAT Berkeley USA. Home of campus radicals, blue tents and hoodlums. I have a daughter attending UC there, please pray. How Trumer figured they could make a fine German/Austrian Pilsner here is anybody’s guess, but here it is!

Trumer’s flagship brewery is in Salzburg, Austria, a historic brewing location very nearby the Bavarian border. This Trumer Pils has it all, perfect bittering, using the correct hops, color, carbonation, head, lacing, malt perfectly balanced to them green things. All perfection, in fact I believe this is in the top five, if not the top 2 Pilsners currently brewed in the US. 18 GOLD MEDALS. It is that good.

How they do this with an open fermentation is another one of those brewing mysteries designed to spark discussions, debate and downright fistfights all throughout the brewing world. With as much as we stress over oxidation, here these pros are pulling it off with an open fermentation. We stand on the shoulders of giants!

Since 2004, 4.9% ABV, you can’t find a finer Pilsner in the US. Enjoy!

The only Trumer I’ve ever had was in the dreaded green bottle and was absolutely horrible, as you might expect. I’ll have to look for it in the can and give it a second chance.

I've never had one, haven't been to Berzerkly in 35 years, but I'm eager to join your cult. Is there any paperwork I need to fill out?
 
Working our way back from AK, staying the night in Whitehorse.

Mrs. Stout and I both caught covid a couple days ago. Our symptoms are like a strong cold with 100-ish fever, some aches, chills, and coughing. We brought some tests on the trip, and yup, 2nd red line.

Dammit, we evaded it for 3.5 years, it was bound to happen.

I probably won't be posting beers for a while. Drinking one doesn't even sound good now. Hope I don't lose my taste buds.
