Back in May or maybe early June I asked Mrs. BY if she’d ever want to try brewing. To my surprise she jumped at the chance. She loves high abv, thick, chewy stouts so I designed a recipe that I thought she might like. She brewed a small one gallon batch back in May/June to get her feet wet. It was enough to fill seven 16oz flip tops, and an eighth one about 2/3 full. Well tonight we opened the partial bottle to see how it’s progressing ( the other seven are being saved until Xmas). Damn......she really nailed it. It’s so good. 10.5% with no alcohol burn, and it’s thick and chewy as well. She’s already talking about brewing it again but scaling up to 5 gallons and kegging it.View attachment 697296

Hey man, rumors are it hit 120 in SLO. How'd that go?

Yeah, I read that it did indeed hit 120° at Cal Poly earlier today. We hit a cool, comfortable 104° around 2pm here in Nipomo. I had planned an afternoon brew day but with that kind of heat I just couldn't do it. Relief tomorrow as it's forecast to be in the low 70's so I'm extending my weekend, taking tomorrow off, and brewing a "Schwarzbier" with Kveik yeast.

Wet hop time! My favorite time!

That exactly what I did...this is a homegrown and brewed beer with about 4.5lbs of blackberries and wet hopping for ?# of days. I think I might let the hops go for two days before removing (along with the berries).

Drank this about 12 hours too early...brunch beverage straight juiceView attachment 697033View attachment 697034

Leave it on a garage shelf and see how long until it explodes...that's the fun stuff right there.

127f in the sun on Sunday ... now it's super smoke haze (no smoke smell, must be high up).

A couple goodies over the last few days.

MIL made me a MX seafood stew with all my favorites, and the BIL/SIL brought down some Hoppy Birthday beer as they usually do on my birthday.

V3.0 of my still-in-progress house pale ale recipe. Not quite there yet, but this one was going to be a long shot any way as it was my 2nd brew on my Anvil Foundry and it ended up spending 45 days in the fermenter. I think I’m going to go back to crystal malt in my recipe. I think I got caught in the no crystal malt hype, but I actually like it lol.
