I decided to piss away eight miles worth of hiking.

A Vienna lager. Thanks to everyone that brewed a Vienna and posted pictures late last Summer and early Fall. It prompted me to dust off my recipe. I should make this more often. Not the best head on it, it's recovering from a foolish bit of over-carbonation that in inflicted upon it last month.

So I’m assembling a new desk chair in my office this afternoon. What better occasion than to enjoy TWO Weihenstephaner Festbiers!

I mean seriously, a guy needs a little fuel in the tank to take on this stuff. Gee, I thought two major pieces and that would be it. Took me 35 minutes just to UNPACK the thing! Dozens of parts!

Weihenstephaner makes one heck of a good Festbier to commandeer events like this. Since 1040, unabashedly The World’s Oldest Brewery! I view days like this in the German tradition of responsibly sipping beer at work. It’s my duty!

Definitely a malt-forward 5.8% ABV Festbier with restrained hopping, continental malt and hops. As good as Weinhenstephaner is, it isn’t one of the Munich area breweries allowed to provide Festbiers at Oktoberfest. That’ll teach you for building your monastery outside of city limits!

I mean does office work get any better than this? Weihenstephaner Festbier, leather armrests, swivel casters, black-oxide screws and a hex wrench to pull it all together. Prost!

Well the girls went 1-1 again today. The first of two today, my daughter got fouled with less than 20 seconds left in the game. Came in clutch hitting both free throws to tie the game. I called our press defense and she tipped the pass in chased it down and scored a clutch layup to put us ahead. What an ending to that first game! Proud dad and coach here!!
Second game was a hard loss, but we have things to work on this week.
Celebratory beer with a late dinner!

Winter ale brewed by some Connecticut Vikings with spruce tips and smoked barley, 8%. This is tasty, malty, slightly sweet but I don't get spruce or smoke. Disappointed since I really like smoked beers but otherwise this is a good beer IMHO.

I bought a sixer of Einstok's white ale. Very nondescript, not much of what makes a witbier. It's light and refreshing, but then, so is Blue Moon.

Nice extinct glassware find at Goodwill today. The one beer cost x4! Ha! Cheers to giving up non-alcoholic beers for lent. It's hard, but someone has to do it...

Pretty good. Senses tell me there's plentiful old school hops. Whatever that means anymore.

You know, there’s something to be said about the wholesome goodness of Pilsner. I have to admit, it is my calling. Almost a Holy thing, self cleansing, delicious and crisp Pilsner, cascading into my glass and into my constitution in a way almost Spiritual and healing. It’s that good!

Radeberger makes a good one too. I don’t know what it is, I’m sort of in a Pilsner mood this week. Yesterday’s Festbier was good for sure, nothing like authentic 1516-Compliant Lagers, that’s what I say! Still, these Pilsners are extra special to me.

Brewers since 1872, Radeberger produces a delicious 4.8% ABV Pils. It’s been quietly lagering in the Beermeister32 bierhoard for the past month. I’ve been looking forward to this all day. Prost!

A cuppa home-roasted coffee (Papua New Guinea), before I go crush grain and start my brew day. Going to be ambitious and brew a full 5 gal batch of Doppelbock BIAB on the stove top in an 8 gal kettle. The mash will fit if I hold back a couple gallons.

That’s exactly how I brew. Mash with 5-6 gallons in an 8 gallon kettle on the stovetop and then about 15 minutes before mash out, I start heating 1.5-2 gallons of water in a stockpot to get to preboil volume. 🍻

Oops. That is for my English Nut Brown, not the stout. Same hops for that. EKG & Fuggles
