Anyone here ever check out the dark depths of r/prisonhooch? I saw someone post about fermenting POG (passion fruit orange guava) juice from Costco. After this thought bubbled up every time I passed the juice aisle, I finally decided to give it a shot. ~3 weeks in primary, Cider House Select dry yeast, nutrient, a week to cold crash. Sweetened with honey in the glass. Not great (reminds me of a flat mimosa) but I have made much WORSE concoctions for sure.

I feel like I’ve been gone from HBT for a while. Oh wait I have been.
Finally home for the weekend. Was in Orlando for a trade show last week and made it home Thursday night. I leave tomorrow for Vegas for a few days for another work trip. 😮‍💨
Enjoyed this yesterday afternoon while hanging out with my oldest daughter.

Busy weekend, but full of goodness, got a sourdough starter, my first attempt should be in the oven tomorrow.. also made a trip to snag some maryland blues from a buddy. Then found this gem sitting in the back if the fridge. Oh and now my power is out, generator keeping things running.

Never heard of this brewery over in Biloxi so decided I'd try their wit with citrus peel and spices. None of either in aroma or taste. Looked at the package date (I've got to get smart enough to do that before I buy) and the year in distorted but it is at least a year old so certainly not representative of what this beer is.☹️

You've hit the trifecta, my friend! Good bread, crabs, cold beer. Glad to hear you have generator power.

Those blue crabs look great, I'm jealous. Reminds me that I need to whip up some crab cakes one of these days, though I have to settle for canned crab.

I get thin slightly bitter carbonated orange juice, they get:

Their palates are much more sensitive than mine!🤣🤣 I'm gonna stop trying stuff I'm pretty sure I won't like then tell folks I don't like it (kinda strange thing to do 🤔). I'll leave those beers to folks that do. I bought a couple of others recently in some weird attempt to "broaden my beer horizons" that I'll post when I drink but won't comment on unless they surprise me. To each his/her own!🍻🍻

I was drinking my house IPA. It's kind of a west coast x east coast colab, using citra/mosaic/Idaho 7 hops. Absolutely delicious!

Now I'm finishing the night with my oak/rum infused pumpkin ale. Been working on this recipe for several years and I think I finally got it to where I want. I use Bumbu rum (if you haven't tried this rum you need to if you like spiced rum) and soak my oak spirals in that as well as my spices. Dump all of it with the oak spirals into the fermenter post fermentation and the results are delicious. The beer has a nice bready malty, caramel base that is well balanced with spices and a slight rum flavor. As the spices fade on your palet you are left with a nice subtle woodsy oak flavor that just reminds me of fall. I love it!

Super cool you're expanding your horizons! I've learned over the years, because there's SO many to choose from, that I look on Untapped first. It's not 100% accurate but at this stage I only grab new beers that are 4.0+. For example, I never would have bought this beer. Maybe this helps your journey??
