Well I’m on the road in Texas this week, a great opportunity to discover brews we don’t see much of in Southern California.
Here’s the pride of Guatamala, plucked from the local gas station. I can see why so many are trying to get into the US - for better beer! Famosa lager is thin, does not appear to have much malt looking at the color, contains Sulfites, unreal, ABV unlisted and it tastes like Sulfur. Must be the Sulfites, eh? Who the heck knows.
This one’s a loser, sorry fellas! Back to school!

Awfully tight where they're at, basically a corner of the brewery. Last Stand was brewing today so that wonderfully beautiful smell was pervasive.Good to hear they were able to relocate and keep going.
Haha! What's that like 4%??

So far not much luck on this Texas brew trip, so let’s go domestic and try this again. Lone Star, since 1884 brewed originally in San Antonio and named “The National Beer of Texas” !!! That says it all!
Lone Star is a pretty standard gold lager, not unlike a lot of similar beers in the US. 4.65% ABV, Lone Star has been owned by several companies over the years and is currently brewed for Pabst at Miller’s big Fort Worth facility.
Great for your Texas BBQ, don’t confuse that with St. Louis or North Carolina BBQ. They have their own beers. Enjoy!

Very similar to a lot of US adjunct lagers. Sometimes I think there is a master recipe used for a lot of these regional and national lagers. Like they are brewing a big batch and just label it differently for different markets.Try Altstadt or Austin Beer Garden Brewery for your style of beer. That is literally the worst beer made in Texas.
