I remember the janitors (or maybe the coaches) would spread fine sawdust sprinkled with pine oil on the gym floor before the post-game Friday night football game dances. We’d hit the showers, load up on deodorant and aftershave or cologne and meet up with our girl friends.

Don’t know why we bothered. After walking into the gym, everyone smelled like Pine Sol anyway. It sure was a good way to treat and polish the hardwood, however.

Coach would chase you with the "Board of Education" if you walked on his gym floor with hard sole shoes. Thus the origin of the "Sock Hop".
