weird taste problem on 1st batch

well i made a batch of hefeweizen out of wheat extract, white labs yeast and some hops. this was my first attempt at brewing. After bottling it and letting it sit for a while, the result is not very satisfying. The beer looks great, good color, carbonation and head, however taste leaves much to be desired. The beer starts off tasting really intense, and actually not too bad, but the finish is really really watery. It almost tastes diluted. Where did I go wrong? Did i put too much water in? I used marks on the bucket to get 5 gallons.

You made this just out of extract? No grains? What was the OG and the FG? maybe we can see what the issue is.

the batch was actually made back in the spring. Just extract, no grains. I split hops into two parts, put half at start of boil, half with 15 minutes left. It was fermented for 3 weeks and i've regularly tried the end product after bottling. It did get a bit better with time, but still not what i would like it to be. As for readings, I wrote them down somewhere, but cant find them. I know there was a big change in readings from start to 3 weeks.

now that i think of it i seem to recall that OG was 1.050 and reading at the end was 1.010. I might be wrong though...

I'm not up on the extract brewing but This flavor description seems to make sense with no specialty grains and only extract. Where did you get the recipe?
