I don't have any experience treating water or anything because we have decent municipal water, but recently my tap water has a strong dirt flavor which is probably MIB or geosmin from the algae on the lake. Is there anything I can do to remove this flavor from my water short of buying a carbon filter? I was planning on brewing a hefe really soon, but really don't want to with this dirtwater.

You could always buy bottled water, but I would make a complaint with the city. Hope all goes well either way

i bought a $17 carbon filter on amazon that is my only water treatment and it works great. my water is good i just use the filter for chlorine but i would recommend a carbon filter for getting funky smells/taste out of tap water.

I ended up getting some spring water for my hefe, and will be getting a carbon filter before I make my christmas ale this weekend. I figure that the algae will stick around and make dirtwater for the rest of the summer, and I also like tasty drinking water. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

$0.89/gal of spring or distilled water at BigBoxMart is always my go to source. Which, i guess, is what you did
