Questions on AG brewing. I keep coming up short for my final boil. I was shooting to collect 6.31 gal of wort but I only ended up with about 5 gal after fly sparging. Here was the recipe and the amount of water I used. let me know what the proper water to grain ratio should be.

8 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) Bel (3.0 SRM) Grain 61.54 %
2 lbs Aromatic Malt (26.0 SRM) Grain 15.38 %
1 lbs 8.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 10L (10.0 SRM) Grain 11.54 %
8.0 oz Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 3.85 %
0.05 oz Styrian Goldings [5.40 %] (90 min) Hops 0.9 IBU
0.75 oz Styrian Goldings [5.40 %] (15 min) Hops 6.3 IBU
1.00 oz Strisslespalt [4.00 %] (5 min) Hops 2.5 IBU
1 lbs Candi Sugar, Clear (0.5 SRM) Sugar 7.69 %

15.00 qt single infusion 153 @ 60 minn
sparged with 3.25 gallons

OG 1.071

Based on my calcuations at 1.25 quarts per pounds mash thickness, to get 6.5 gallons I would.

Mash in with 4 gallons of water. At the end of the the mash time, add 1 gallon of hot sparge water, then let-er rip into the kettle (you should have 3.25 gallons unless your MLT leaves some behind). After draining, add a second batch of sparge water of 3.25 gallons, stir well, wait 10 minutes, stir again and drain to kettle.

Basically you need 1.3 gallons more of sparge water provided you don't
go below 1010 SG on the last of your runnings.
You could also increase the mash water to get between 1.3 and 1.6 Qt
per Lb of grain.

Ed, he is fly sparging.
