So, my roommate got a Culligan subscription so he's getting all these plastic carboys to compete with mine (ha! As if he could possibly beat me in the carboy numbers game!) You think he'd be mad if I popped my 12% apfelwein carboy into the water dispenser?

I ferment in bottles similar to these.
Sam's Club - Ocean Spray® Cranberry Cocktail - 1 gallon bottle

If you can find something similar, you'll be fine. Main concern is that it needs to be PET plastic (type 1). Milk jugs are type 2. Type 7 is other. It could be safe, but probably isn't.

The bottles in your link are 1's...Just an FYI...

It's all a matter of what you can afford and what is available.

I agree with this. I'm new to mead making, but until I can afford carboys, hydrometers, racking canes, etc... I'm just gonna be happy that mead making is an accessible hobby. um... that tastes good!

so a water jug with a number 1 on the bottom will be fine to use?
