I hate dealing with bottles and want to keg my next batch (will be my first batch in 3 years). I just have no clue what I will need to do this other than the keg itself. Can yu guys tell me what I need besides the keg? Also, where is th but place to buy the kegs on a budget?

You will need-

Keg(s)
CO2 regulator
gas and liquid lines
means to chill the keg
serving faucet

I am in the middle of building a side by side kezzer/ferm chamber, but I am still using picnic taps for the time being.

Depends on how big of a hurry you are, I spent a year picking up a piece here and there when I found good deals. Craigslist is a good place, as well as the FS thread here on the forum, you have to keep an eye out because deals go quick.

You could always look into buying a package, looking at kegconnection.com you can get the basics of what you need for a 2 keg setup for ~$265 + shipping ( for pin lock kegs)

Begging? You need some ratty clothes, a sign and a sad story.
For kegging you can start pretty simply. I started with a CO2 bottle, regulator, two 2.5 gallon kegs with picnic taps and a mini fridge. Look in your local listings for soda supply, they can fill or rent gas bottles. I have found deals on CO2 and regulators on ebay and craigslist.

+1 on JohnSand - but maybe some dark glasses and a cane for effect:)

Good advice so far. Might also watch Homebrew Finds The first thing on the page today is a deal on Pin-lock kegs for $34.95 with the disconnects. If you choose pin-locks you will want to replace the lids with the ball-lock style lid for the manual pressure release. (about $15.00) Most Homebrewers use ball lock but it really doesn't matter and pin-locks are always cheaper...I have converted some pin-locks I got off Craigslist for $5.00 myself as I use ball-locks.

There is an add on there from The Keg Outlet as well - I have gotten some of my kegging "stuff" from them but I think when I first started kegging I searched the "G" for complete set up then "shopping" and compared prices.

As for CO2, I go to my local NAPA supply and trade out my empty CO2 bottle for a new one. Perhaps most welding supply houses - some beverage places can do that for you.

Cheers!

For CO2 you might also look for a place that services fire extinguishers. There is one near me that will fill a cylinder while you wait, vs exchanging cylinders.

Do you have a local home brew shop? That was where I went and I walked out the door with everything I needed, even a full C02 tank, and an address on where to get it refilled.

You need :
Ball lock keg
C02 regulator
6 feet of co2 line
15 feet of beer line (length depends on diameter, they will help you with this)
Gas and liquid ball locks (one of each)
Spare set of O rings for the keg
keg lube for orings (you can do without this, but one small container of it lasts a lifetime and it will keep your orings good longer)
4 hose clamps
picnic tap

All of the items above will get you started. I bought 2 kegs to start as well as a counter pressure bottle filler.

my original setup was a dual regulator (double dual, double gauge dual regulators) and a single keg in a stand up fridge. worked for yeeeeearrs.

it works, just fine with a picnic tap. so you can get started for the cost of a cheap fridge plus the keg and a regulator. not bad.

then you can upgrade.... to build this.

I'm down on my hands and knees. Im old, decrepit and mentally unstable. Send me legs and components!!! Only you can help this poor pathetic old man. Or, for only $25 a month, you'll have a part in my kegging. I'll send you monthly letters sloshed with beer that I've poured (with your generous donation) and pictures. I'm starting to feel better already just knowing you care and are ready to send me the help I need so badly
While this is not tax deductible, know that your place in the human race is secure.
