I'm heading to Vegas on monday and i'm wondering where i would be able to track down some beer, and what i should try to track down.

Last time i was in Vegas i was surprised that i didn't see much for beer selection, i had to drive off the strip to a whole foods and that was the best i could do at the time.

Hello, Go to the Haufbrau House, it has some of the best beer you will ever taste.

I like trying what ever seasonal they happen to have at the time, Pretend your german and get a 1 Liter mug, it's the way to go !

Cheers :mug:

If you are looking for good beer on tap on the strip, The Pub in Monte Carlo has 120ish beers on tap. I recommend hitting it up during happy hour though, otherwise you are paying a premium for that premium beer.

Vegas is a craft beer desert.
You can also check out the Nevada Homebrewtalk section for ideas: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f190/

You're wildly wrong, maybe do some research before you make ridiculous claims. The Strip has a limited selection, but like everyone else who lives here, I rarely go there.

We get almost everything California gets, as well as so much from around the country. I rarely go without something I want.

To the OP: check out firkin frog, maybe 2 miles off the strip, with a bottle and tap list to rival anywhere in the country.

+1. We stayed there back in January for the Rugby 7s tourney. Not a bad selection. I remember having something from Firestone Walker and some Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar (I'm currently cold crashing a clone batch of that one).

There's also a little micro (can't recall the name) down on the pedestrian part of Fremont.

Thanks everyone!

I'm there for a week for work on a conference and I wanted to pick some spots out in advance.

Much appreciated.

Wow, sorrryyyy.
How large is Las Vegas? How many breweries?
Portland, where I live, has 53 breweries within the city limits of a city with 1 million.
I have checked out many places in the many times I've visited Las Vegas, and have been underwhelmed. The Firkin Frog was good, but we've got at least half a dozen places that good or better. I would expect more from Las Vegas' beer scene. I hope a local knows more about it than me, because I haven't beer impressed.
Big Dogs sucked, Tenaya Creek was below average, Triple 7 and Chicago Brewing Company are average, Ellis Island was bad, and Hofbrauhaus and Gordon Biersch are average chains. I have yet to check out Banger Brewing, perhaps they're better than Stone and The Bruery? Sin City was underwhelming contract brewed beer, and the Joseph James beer I've had has been average to slightly above average.
To each his own. Enjoy your local beer scene, my opinion, ridiculous as it is, is that it isn't very good at all. Perhaps we should set up a poll for HBT members?
Cheers.

I wasn't comparing our "local" scene to Portland, no one was discussing Portland at all, and that'd be silly anyway. (Also, if we're talking hometown beer supremacy, I'm from Belgium so you probably don't want to go there :p)

What I was saying that your "craft beer desert" comment was just ignorant, as -commercial- craft beer is everywhere and the availability and selection is amazing, even at gas stations.

Besides, that's like someone talking about pizza and someone popping in "Hey I'm from New York your pizza selection sucks lolz"

No one asked ;)

Why haven't you posted on any of the Las Vegas/Nevada places to check out threads, then?
Belgium trumps everywhere else, huh?

Listen, don't get upset that you were trying to sound superior and made an untrue statement, and someone disagreed with you.

Yard house at red rock, but that's a drive from the strip. Nice casino though too of you gamble.

I was just browsing this thread to see if anyone else had posted this place and you beat me to it! They also have a location on the south end of the strip at Town Square.

Yard House is one of my personal favorites. About 100 beers on tap, plus a bunch more in bottles. The beer variety is really good, and the food is also outstanding.

The Germans, British, and Americans might disagree with your belief that Belgium and Belgian beer is better than everyone elses.
Why are you living in Las Vegas, then?
I like Belgian beers, and make a lot of Belgian style beers, but not exclusively. We've got 3 breweries in Portland that turn out exclusively Belgian style beers and 1 that brews almost exclusively sours, and I have to give props to Belgian breweries, but there is more to beer than Belgians.
Meanwhile, Las Vegas remains underserved with breweries and good beer.
Come on up to Portland and I'll buy you a beer, or perhaps in San Francisco, Seattle, Eugene, or Boise (which has less than half as many people as Vegas and at least as many breweries).

I was never arguing that we had a lot of breweries (we have 2 that are okay) when we talk "craft beer" we do get a lot of awesome distribution from around the country, which was point.

Why do I live here? Unfortunately I can't base my career around breweries per capita :(

You have NO good reason for Bashing Vegas or Bashing other members.

So why don't you just stop now ! Hmmmm ?

Opinions are like butts, everyones got one and they all stink !

Cheers :mug:

To the OP:
If you are looking to sit down and have a local beer, I found the best to be Banger Brewing on Fremont. They are new but definitely know their stuff. I found Tenaya Creek and Big Dogs acceptable but not "top notch". Stay away from Ellis Island* and Main Street Station.
If you are looking for selection of "not necessarily local" taps, there are a few decent ones on the strip and I've heard of, but not been to a place called "Freakin' Frogs" as well as The Yard up in Red Rock.
Bottles to take home? Hands down best place I've found is Total Wine in Summerlin. More wine than anything else but their beer selection is pretty darned good.

*The one exception to Ellis Island is "The Pub" in Terminal 3 of McCarran. Unadvertised special, buy a beer, get $4 towards any shot (basically free well or a steep discount on top shelf). Ask for it before ordering. So, a shot and a free beer to wash it down if you choose.

Just Ignore the Troll !

At least vegas has a few micro breweries, and a lot of places to try lots of different beers at, where I live we have 0 in mohave valley and the closest brewery is over 1 hour away, 1 place sells craft beers and its 22 miles away.

Thats kinda the reason I make HomeBrew !

Cheers :mug:

Distribution from America, or Belgium?
I was lucky enough to be born in the US, in Oregon, and chose to live here in Portland after living all over the country and visiting several more, in part because of the breweries even though I can live anywhere.
Come on up to Portland for a visit sometime :tank:
What are your favorite breweries and beer bars in Las Vegas, so I can visit them the next time I'm there?

If i were looking for bottles to bring home will i require a car?

I'd love to bring home some nice craft beer (keep in mind coming from Canada, there would be lots here that isn't available at home!)

I'm here not just debating on renting a car.
