Hi,

Is it safe to have a valve on the fermenter, so that you can take samples for gravity measurements, and then use the same valve for bottling ?

I would imagine all sorts thing could grow inside a sugarcoated valve ?

How do you do ?

Thank you,
walther

A lot of fermenters do have valves on them, it's not be that big a problem as long as you take them apart for cleaning.

Hi,

Thank you for the replies,

The wine thief looks great, I will look into that.
I would just imagine that if you use a valve over a period of maybe 3-4 weeks, it could be a source of infection? But if no one has had any problems, thats great.

cheers,
walther

Always spray sanitizer in the valve before you open it and purge a small amount before you actually catch the liquid. I used to keep a sanitized plastic bag or aluminum foil over the valve with a rubber band.

I don't use pails for fermentation any more though.:)

Ah,...

Thanks, it was something like that I was looking for,...

cheers,
