can I use liquid corn syrup or corn malt to make the brew instead of the regular malt they sell it in the kids you can buy?

You can use it, but the result will not taste like barley beer. With corn malt you will probably get a beer similar to chicha. If you like it use it, but, if you can't get barley malt easily, you can malt barley by yourself, isn't too hard. Search the forum for malting.
