Hi,

I'm looking to build following system:
Screenshot-2019-11-07-at-07-35-52.png

- Keep the temp in the HLT tank (left) steady with (multiple) heating elements and an inkbird
- The temp sensor of the inkbird is located in the mash
- Circulate hot water through the mash using a immersion chiller (heater in this case).

Some remarks:
- Heating the mash could be problematic or very slow. A solution for this would be to first heat the kettles with a gas burner. Extra problem: insulation does not work well with gas burners
- Multi step mash or mashout could be problematic. Solution: accept that you only can do single infusion or use extra gas burner when upping the temp.
- Hoses should be kept as short as possible to ensure a minimal temp loss

Is this system feasible?

I would think that you will heat up the mash near the IC more than the rest of the mash unless you recirculate/stir the mash. If you're going to recirculate the mash you might as well do HERMS or RIMS.

Take the chiller and put it into the kettle. Pump wort from mash tun to chiller and back to mash tun. Adjust the heat in the kettle with the chiller and boom you have a portable herms coil.
