Alright, so I received two pool pumps, the ones for above ground pools. I am planning on using one in my bottle washer system. But the other, I was wondering if anybody had ideas of what it can and can't be used for. For example, could it be used in the future if I upgrade to a HERMS or RIMS system or any other useful project?

I did open the pumps up to just the pump part, and both seem to work the same way, an induction motor with a propeller.

Thanks

if you use an immersion chiller, you can use the pump to push ice water through the chiller. This works during the hotter months when the water from the faucet gets warmer.

Sell them and buy something that serves the right purpose. I've been re-evaluating my Time+Effort involved with DIY projects. (Time being my lacking resource lately).

If you have a pool, use the pump to pull pool water through a chiller, then return to pool. That's what I do. Zero net water used. Pump in pic below is actually a submersible aquarium pump, but you get the idea.

great idea!

Well something I realized, is that the pool pumps don't have enough pressure to really do anything on the bottle washer. It may have something todo with the 2" outlet hose to 1/2" cpvc.

Yeah but then in 3 months when the water is 92 degrees this method blows. I plumbed in a 2nd dishcharge line and reduced it down to a female hose adapter and it works fine until about now. I was swimming yesterday in 82 degree pool. :tank:

Run it through a pre-chiller set in a cooler full of ice. I imagine your tap water isn't much cooler than your pool in the summer time? Mine is higher than 80* in the summer, 70* right now. I use a pre-chiller all the time.

With what I pay for water, I may look into getting a pump and using the pool like that.

No, it doesn't blow. Couple hours in the freezer and it's time to pitch, or use ice bucket prechiller.
