I just discovered something. My beer that has a nasty "twang" to it if I drink it cold (or even cool), but tastes pretty good if I drinking it almost warm. Whatever temperature my basement is right now, probably mid 60's.

I like it for porter and stout but not for paler styles. It has a bit of a twang that offsets the malts nicely, making the beer taste lighter and more drinkable. When I've tried it in paler, weaker beers, the yeast has been too dominant.

Just an update, my beer was cold crashed for a week and a half or so, fined with gelatin and kegged. It tastes better but still has too much of that awful twang/tart taste. Too bad, I think it would have been a delicious brew, but the yeasty taste overpowers everything else. I doubt I'll ever use this yeast again. Any recommendations for a good liquid English ale yeast? Apparently Wlp-007 is the same or similar strain, has anyone gotten a tart/twangy flavour from this yeast?

The Mangrove Jacks dry yeasts are quite nice. The Burton Union or the Newcastle Dark might work for you.

Try Wlp 002. It's the strain used by Lagunitas
