Hi guys looking for a real quick answer to a very urgent question!

I'm currently in the middle of a brew day, brewing what should become 20-ish liters of a spitfire clone. Due to the size of my pot I am doing a double boil. Finishing the end of the first boil I just realized I have done a bit of an oopsie and put ALL of the hops into the first pot.

The question is: when I do the second batch, do I still need to boil it a full 60mins even though I'm not adding any hops to it or would it be enough to just bring it to a boil, let it bubble for say, five mins and then just stop?

Any answers much appreciated!

If all grain Yes, it will drive off dms, which taste like cooked vegetables and bring your volume to what you probably Planned for.

If you are using extract it would be fine to bring it to a boil for about 10-20 minutes and call it good. I have friends who do no boil batches..although I don't recommend them

I second what jodell said.

If you are doing an extract batch, just boil until you hit the volume/ gravity that you are shooting for. The hop bitterness and aroma may be off, as compared to the recipe, but this should not be completely detrimental.

It is a lot harder to completely screw up a batch of homebrew than people can make it seem!

**EDIT: looks like I was late to the party... boil at least 30 to 45 minutes since you are doing all grain.

The only thing to consider is that if you shorten your boil, you will not boil off as much water from the wort. If I do a 90min boil, I lose anywhere from 1-2gal from boil-off. The boil-off will increase your final gravity, so if you don't boil the second half as long, you may end up with a slightly weaker beer in the end.

Thanks again guys, currently mashing the second batch. My entire brewing rig is pretty ad hoc. I've managed to accomplish a few succesful brews on it, and even when I screwed up (forgot to do the gravity correction dilute) the beer ended up being awesome, just a lot stronger than was meant (hence the style accidental strong ale, ended up being 8% but tasted ridiculously good!). Haven't brewed anything for three months so managed to forget a few things like my boil off volume. Gonna boil a full 60mins the second time as well just to be sure, I can always add water to hit 1.050 which is my normal goal. I loooove shepherd neame beers and brit ales in general so not gonna risk getting any veggy taste in it. just that it's gonna be about 0:30 when I finish and fotta get up for work at 5:20 but what wouldn't you do for a full batch of fine homebrew, I know I'm gonna be thanking myself over and over while enjoying the end result and will surely be raising a pint for you guys as well!
