It's not amazing to me at all. It took me like 15 minutes to find out the CA breweries were full of **** when it came to growler laws, 15 minutes that apparently none of them took. Many breweries, including Alpine, still aren't in compliance with the law. It's baffling, but at this point utterly expected, that breweries seem so disinclined to actually know the laws they operate under.
Having worked at a brewery (not in CA), I can tell you that a lot of the time the fault is with someone in the state alcohol authority sending an email or making a remark off-the-record that is itself not correct. As mentioned earlier... even if it's ridiculous, they will do what they want because they can.

Here in NJ, the ABC has outright forbidden the breweries from having food trucks parked outside their tasting rooms. Of course, this is WAY beyond the ABC's jurisdiction, but they have everyone by the balls as long as they can shut down all the tasting rooms in the state for a year while they "write new regulations." It's all about politics, and here in NJ, the bars and restaurants lobbied real hard against the new law allowing breweries to sell beer for on-premise consumption, and they've still got their hands in our legislature's pockets. The ABC hears about it from powerful people in Trenton, and in turn does whatever they can do hassle the breweries. It's just the way things work in New Jersey America modern human civilization.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all about the basic principle here, but Alpine is in compliance with the law. They just choose not to get label approvals for other breweries' growlers.

Unless you're talking about something other than filling other breweries' growlers...

No, I don't believe they right enough information on their growlers. Like, I think you need the complete beer name, for instance. I think there are a few things like that that they just do not do.

(Though the fact that they started writing ABVs makes me think the local ABC guy came in and set them at least somewhat straight, it's possible the ABC just doesn't care about the full letter of the law.)

Oh yes, regarding that you are absolutely correct. And they seem to have an eye-roll type response when asked why they started writing the beer's alcohol content on the caps.

They need to get tags for the beer info much like most other breweries attach to their growlers when filling them. But if they do that then they'll be one step closer to being on the hook for filling other breweries' growlers. However, it has been made very clear to me that they don't want to do that as they consider the profits from sales of empty glass and branding too important to them to do that.

Holy **** folks, stop the presses.

Y'all can't handle this ****.

Lotso bitching on BA now...

Sounds like MordorMongo bought all the SR4 before the lottery. ( Had to, he is the only one that joined amirite? )

ISO? Potential FT funky southpaw from upcoming JOs release? :)

Srs.
I would suspect Persimmon holders are more responsible than SBS. And I just may take you up on that offer.....once this **** goes down shoot me a convo. ;)

As it stands right now members get:
  • 2 glasses ($15 total)
  • 1 sour and wild funk fest ticket+ 2 tix for after party (say $75 value?)
  • 2 tix for food and sour tasting (say $90 value)
  • Opportunity to buy close 40 sours in 2014, plus the 9 in this most recent release (never mind said '8 bottles') all without ******* around with the lottery
So if someone were to plan on buying all 40-50 bottles, that essentially boils down to paying an extra 1.50 per bottle....MordorMongo's mistake doesn't seem so ******.

Who really wants to buy that much though?

Still sounds like a ******** society.

Don't forget that sweet certificate. That thing is priceless!

Anyone else entering the lottery for Raspberry and Cherry Uplands? I will be. If you "win", are you able to purchase one of each? Or do you have to "win" for each beer separately in order to get one?

Regardless of what happens, I can assure you that it will be difficult to obtain a SBS certificate. I think when you register, you will have to specify Raspberry, Cherry, or Both...not sure if selecting both would hurt your odds considerably or not?
