Uh oh, wifey is gonna be pi**ed!

It must be getting warmer because this morning when i woke up this is what i saw in my office:

Lol. she is away for a couple hours so she has no idea it happened. No for the hard part, cleaning it up so good she still wont know what happened.

Im thinking the krausen helped make a natural barrier to prevent my beer form getting infected. does anyone else think ill be ok? i dont know how long it has been exposed to the air. but i scooped the krausen off with a sanitized cup. hopefully that works.

ive made more beer than i can count now, and this is the only time i have ever seen it be this active enough to foam out.

German breweries traditionally fermented in open vessels. My German grandparents made beer in their washtub. So, it'll probably be fine. I'd be more worried about the carpet. At least it's beige.

Just watched an episode of northern brew tv and they did an session on open fermenting. during its heavy fermenting and the high krausen is when your bier is most protected. Its after its just about done fermenting that you should transfer to a closed fermenter to protect the bier.. So you should be good

I thinl you'll be ok if you skim off the krausen like you said. I've been lucky so far. Especially last time. That cooper's fermenter lid was creaking like an old wooden ship,but no bomb. Good thing,it sits on an old printer stand to the right of my computer hutch. But it does make for some pleasant smells while on here...

I just want to humbly submit this one thing. If your wife is such a neat freak she flips her lid over something like this that is fixable and cleanable, then she's got problems. This fits into the class of thing I call "compulsory offended", that it's a betrayal of something she holds dear to not make a big deal.

That said, she would also probably prefer the truth.

Shes not that much of a neat freak, i just know she would wonder why the h3ll i didnt put it somewhere else.

she is fine with it though, i texted her the picture, as long as i clean it up, there no problem.

Your beer should be fine. I had a belgian wheat blow the airlock sending krausen all over a closet. Closet still smells like malt 9 months later; the beer was AWESOME! the CO2 coming off the yeast should protect against infection during fermentation. clean lid, recover, RHAHB.

I've found that if I start with, "I already cleaned it up," SWMBO will be very, very paranoid. If I start with, "How would you feel if I let the mafia kill a few people in here?", then laugh at her apoplexy and say, "No, the beer overflowed, I already cleaned it up. Don't you like the smell?"

That makes her day.

Screw that. If she freaks out punch her in the face and scream "Equal rights, ********". It works every time. If the cops show up just tell them she fell down the stairs. This even works if you have a ranch house.

go to walmart and find a bottle of Kids N' Pets. this is a great washing product and it will take the stain right out. i have both kids and pets and i have had my little girl take the bottles with trub and dump it out on the carpet. sprayed it on and i don't have a smell or stains. it works great.

back on topic. kudos on the pic. not many will think of getting the pic and then cleaning. wish more did. love seeing mistakes that i have made on someone elses floor

I would leave the lid off until krausen starts to fall. Your beer will be fine.

quick question, what is krausen bad? you said you scooped the krausen off with a sanatized cup and I am wondering why its bad if you have it in every fermentation?

Also, Did you resanatize the lid before you put it back on? I'd forget like a dummy and just put it back on while yelling Oh, Shudders, I suck at cleaning, lol
