is anyone from the area or familiar with it that can recommend some good beer spots or general spots for debauchery?

I was in Nashville this weekend. Wife had a conference at the Gaylord so I mainly stayed there and relaxed. I did check out Black Abbey Brewing and Yazoo Brewing. Also, did some beer shopping at Craft Brewed.

Did not have a bad beer at either place. Both have tasting rooms where you can do flights. They both give tours. Black Abbey was actually done by the brewer so that was pretty cool.

Black Abbey also does something unique in that they barrel age their beers in Whiskey barrels that they get from the local liquor stores. They do not blend so in theory each barrel may produce a slightly different beer.

You will have to drive to Black Abbey but it may be doable to hit Yazoo and other restaurants/bars downtown or close to Yazoo.

Also if you like Saison's buy some from BlackberryFarm Brewery. They are located in Tennessee. Not sure how far their distribution is. Their Summer Saison won silver at 2015 GABF. I also had their Classic Saison and it was very good.

Others to look at: Czann Brewery, Jackalope Brewery, Fat Bottom Brewery, TN Brew Works. The Brew Dogs show brewed with TN Brew Works while filming in Nashville. All very good and must drink while checking out the music.

I also second TN brew works. Laura, their head brewer, is super cute.

yazoo & black abbey are the 2 best breweries.
there are lots of good restaurants that have a good beer slection. pharmacy is probably my favorite.
for beer stores, frugal mcdoogal is my go to, which is very close to yazoo & TN brew works.
Yazoo, tn brew works, & frugal mcdoogal are in an area known as the gulch, which is a good place for bars & restaurants.

The beers that TN Brew works distributes are kindof crap, but they might have some limited releases on tap there.
Food writers have been blowing Nashville up, so expect a long long wait for any place you've read about in a magazine or blog. If you want "hot chicken" don't go during the typical lunch or dinner hour or you will wait forever.

Seconded. Their beers are worth seeking out.

I didn't try Black Abbey but I had two different Yazoo beers Sunday night at The Row (Sue, their big 9.2%ABV smoked porter and the Hop Project IPA) and both were excellent.

FWIW, open mike (no cover! but our waitress was a disaster) at The Row was a lot better than I expected it would be as everyone was at least decent and Clayton from Alabama was very very good. He took requests and I asked for Copperhead Road and that dude played a hella good version on the fly saying he'd never played it in front of an audience before.

Hot chicken and a good beer. Don't waste your time going to Prince's for the chicken - it's good, not great. Hattie B's is the best, hands down. Nice place in the Gulch is Party Fowl. Most places have good music. I disagree with the TN Brew Works beer being crap, but to each his/her own. If you're going to Nashville, the Ryman is a must, even if it's just the tour. But better if you can catch a concert - any concert. Best venue anywhere. Period.

If you want some spirits, Corsair distillery has a tasting room at Marathon Motor Works and is nice. It's in the same building at the American Pickers' store - Antique Archeaology.

I'm biased though because I live in Nashville and it's an awesome city.

Check out TN brew works, Corsair is making some amazing beers too. Also yahoo and jackalope are fantastic too. Hot chicken - go to Boltons on Main Street.
