Alpha Blondy "Jerusalem" is another classic reggae album.
The Urge "Receiving the Gift of Flavor"--awesome horn section.
Bad Religion--didn't see anyone mention them yet.

1. Poi Dog Pondering - Wishing Like a Mountain and Thinking Like the Sea (but any of the older albums are great)
2. Liquid Soul - Self Titled
3. Cornershop - The one with Brimful of Asha

I gotta chime in, although I feel like since I'm a little younger the highly influential bands in my adolesence might not hold up to your standards, but here we go:

1.)Descendents-Milo Goes To College (I think I'm getting the cover art of this album tattooed on me)
2.)Descendents-ALL (the 2 albums really can't be compared its like night and day)
ALL-Breaking Things
3.)NOFX-Ribbed
4.)Dropkick Murphys-Do or Die
5.)Suicide Machines-Destruction by Definintion (Although I think A Match and Some Gasoline is better)

Without these 5 albums I wouldn't be who I am today, what can I say?

Interesting call on the Decendents/All. I've been a fan of them for a dozen years, but I never thought I'd put one of their albums in a top 5. The only top 5 punk albums I can think of are "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" (Dead Kenedy's) or The Ramones (self-titled album).

I think I go with "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables" over "Convenience".

Agreed....their first was the best...and they could never re-capture an entire album like that again even though they still did make great songs scattered over another 10 or so years.

Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica has been growing on me, and I'm having a Pixies resurgence lately. And, not an obscure band but an odd album - They Might Be Giant's Here Come The ABCs has been getting played for Miles a lot lately.

Love the Pixies AND my kids love They Might Be Giant's Here Come the ABCs.

It's some of the only kids music I can listen to without getting the urge to plunge the car into a pole.

I'm bringing this thread back to life. I've just been getting into the Butthole Surfers, and man did I waste time by not getting into this band earlier. Just awesome stuff here folks. Locust Abortion Technician is a difficult album to get through, but Independent Worm Saloon or ElectricLarryLand are awesome. I need to get more.

Oh heck yeah! That's one Poi CD I don't have... so at this point I'm partial to Volo Volo. Saw them live during my college days. A FANTASTIC show.

cripes... I don't have my MP3 player with me at the moment.

One CD that comes to mind immediately is Shooter Jennings' "Put the O Back in Country."

Neil Young - Prairie Wind (video)
A word about this... I know he's not exactly an obscure artist but I'm not sure how many people realize that he continues to make great music. Go get his Heart of Gold DVD... it's one of the best concert movies I've ever seen, full of music from his Prairie Wind album.
