So my wife and I had our first anniversary this past weekend, and to celebrate we went to a little speak easy bar in Tulsa where we just moved too.

I'm a beer guy, however there is one type of cocktail I will order at the right type of bar without question: the old fashioned. I will say most bars do it wrong, but I had heard good things about this place and had to try it.

Well the waitress told me they had what they called their tobacco old fashioned which they used rum, a black cherry, and orange peel, a tiny bit of sugar (and I mean just a pinch) and tobacco bitters. This thing was fantastic.

When it came time for round 2, I tried the same thing but with Bulleit....oh my god it was phenomenal.

Now my question...has anybody seen anyplace to buy tobacco bitters?? I have read enough online about making a tobacco tincture that I don't want to do it myself (so let's not debate on the safety of this), but this is a drink I want to make on the regular at home.

Are you originally a Wisconsinite? :D

I've seen a couple cool bars make their own bitters, but I've never seen tobacco.

I'm not from Wisconsin...maybe I am.at heart :)

I did check out Google and their are a bunch of warnings about extracting to much nicotine and making it lethal... so I'm trying to figure out where to buy it

I think what they're doing is make something that tastes like tobacco, but really isn't a tobacco extract. I sure wouldn't want to mess around with actual tobacco extract.

That's why I brought it up. I don't want to mess around with extracting tobacco but I have looked up places that have. Maybe I'll go back to this place and see what they use/do

Sounds amazing. Nothing like an old fashioned with a cigar. Please keep updated if you get more info.

I'm going to go to the place again and see if they'll tell me about it

Can't speak to the bitters, but love this cocktail. I'll make it sometimes "the usual way", which I htink is more like how most restaurants would make it. Bit of OJ (I don't usually have an orange to muddle, but usually have OJ), some simple syrup, some marachino cherry juice and a cherry, some bitters, muddle, add ice, a shot of bourbon, and top with seltzer, stir till mixed.

The more "traditional" way (bourbon, bit of syrup, bitters, an orange peel, and ice), I've really gotten to like - love Robert Hess's videos for cocktails, and this is the one that made me a fan: http://smallscreennetwork.com/video/42/cocktail_spirit_old_fashioned
