This will likely be one of my final all extract recipes. I want to do a DIPA with some dank funk. Here's what I've been brain storming. Would love for some suggestions or tweaks. Thanks.

Est. OG: 1.084
IBUs: 57.3
Color: 8.6
Est. ABV: 9.0%

6.5# Light DME
1.5# Wheat DME
1.5# Corn Sugar

1 oz. Nelson @60
1 oz. Columbus @60
1 oz. Citra @15
0.5 oz. Cascade @15
0.5 oz. El Dorado @15
1 oz. Citra @FO
0.5 oz. Cascade @FO
0.5 oz. El Dorado @FO
1 oz. Citra @WP (30 mins)
1 oz. Cascade @WP (30 mins)
1 oz. El Dorado @WP (30 mins)
1 oz. Citra @DH (7 days)
1 oz. Cascade @DH (7 days)
1 oz. El Dorado @DH (7 days)

ETA: I figured two bittering additions @60 would have given me more IBUs. I'm totally fine with 60-ish IBUs, just thought it would have been higher?

Please, save the Nelson for the dry-hop - esp. if you want "dank".

Columbus will get you some, but again, it needs to be late in the boil, or completely afterward.

I'd replace some of the Cascade with Centennial, and definitely put the Nelson in your dry-hop.

I also question those IBUs. Seems low.

Thanks guys. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. And the dank funk of Nelson is exactly what I'm after. I'll move some things around this morning and recalculate.

Any advantages to using whole cone instead of pellets for dry hop? I wanted more hop nose in my last one. So I definitely want to bump up the amount of dry hops.

Tweaked it further. Here's where I'm at now...

6.5# Light DME
1.5# Wheat DME
1.5# Corn Sugar

2 oz. Columbus (or magnum or warrior) @60

1 oz. Citra @15
0.5 oz. Cascade @15
0.5 oz. El Dorado @15

1 oz. Citra @FO
0.5 oz. Centennial @FO
0.5 oz. El Dorado @FO

2 oz. Citra @WP (steep 30 mins)
1 oz. Centennial @WP (steep 30 mins)
1 oz. El Dorado @WP (steep 30 mins)
1 oz. Nelson @WP (steep 30 mins) **may drop this addition**

2 oz. Citra @DH (7 days)
2 oz. Centennial @DH (7 days)
1 oz. El Dorado @DH (7 days)
4 oz. Nelson @DH (7 days)
**Dry hopping split into two additions**

Per the Brulosopher, dry-hopping with whole-cone hops is worth it if the beer is consumed quickly, but after a couple of weeks, there didn't seem to be much difference in aroma over pellets.

Nelson's oils seem to go up easily at moderately low temps, so if you want the dankness, use it just in the dry-hop, unless you whirlpool at 120°F or less.

I've been thinking about cutting out a lot of the extracurriculars like the cascade and centennial. Also thought about dropping the el dorado and saving that for another one. Here is what I am looking at now...

8# Light DME
1.5# Wheat DME
1.5# Corn Sugar

1 oz. Columbus @60

1 oz. Citra @15

2 oz. Citra @FO

2 oz. Citra @WP (30 mins)
1 oz. Nelson @WP (30 mins)

2 oz. Citra @DH (7 days)
4 oz. Nelson @DH (7 days)

Est. OG: 1.077
IBUs: 84.5
Color: 8.3
Est. ABV: 8.2%

Looking good on the updated one. Nelson and Citra ate my go to for DH and WP. I can attest, Nelson/Citra are so freaking good together and your ratio is on point. Let us know how it turns out. FWIW, I'm planning on adding El Dorado to a Nelson Citra ipa since they sound like they mix well, but I haven't used it before so i can't preach the good word quite yet.

Nice! I plan on brewing this next weekend, so I'll let you know how it turns out in a few weeks. And let me know about the El Dorado! That's gonna be in a near future beer for me as well.

I'm putting together my AG set up, so I'm juggling around the idea of doing an IIPA before or after. Eldorado is going in with Nelson and Citra one way or the other. Like I said, I'm not 100% if it'll be my last PM batch or my first AG, but I'm thinking I might do something with a smaller grain bill for my first AG. I'll let you know one way or the other how will the hops play together.
