I asked something related to this earlier and got zero replies. Surely someone knows. What is the thread size for standard screw top wine bottles? I got a few 28mm (according to LHBS) metal caps, and they did not fit, they fit the standard cola bottle, not what I need. I need some of the type that would fit a commercial bottle like Black Opal, Yellow Tail, etc. Any help with a source appreciated.

I think you're talking about Stelvin caps. I'm not sure, but I believe they are 30 mm. I have never seen 30 mm caps for sale.

You can't apply Stelvin caps without a machine, but you might be able to buy some Stelvin caps and remove the caps from the sleeves
