I've been brewing for a few months and stealing information from you guys and reddit for a bit longer. Thought I'd join up, say hello, and hopefully quit lurking so much.

Glad to have you!

What do you like to brew/drink?

I currently have a Gingerbread Ale slow carbing in a keg.

I tend to stick with ales because I'm not a huge fan of hoppy beers... and it's about the only thing the wife will also drink (she's more of a liquor kind of girl). I may attempt a stout next, but I'm also looking at making the jump to AG and sticking with a style I'm more familiar with might be a good idea.

Due to the upcoming holidays, I'm probably not going to be able to brew anything until after new years. :(

uh...hoppy beers are ales, like APA & IPA's...you came to the right place to learn!:mug:

While I get the point you're making, it's a tad pedantic and condescending. Everyone I know breaks APA's and IPA's out of regular ales. Yeah, I understand that the A on the end there stands for ale. Just as you, hopefully, were able to understand when I said "I tend to stick with ales because I'm not a huge fan of hoppy beers" I was referring to non *PA style ale. Admittedly, I could have phrased better. But thanks for making a new member feel welcome.

Just thought I'd clear that up. Didn't intend to be a wise guy or anything. Just stating the facts. But yeah, When I started brewing, I didn't get the brewing all those tzar bomba hop bombs. I like pale ale & IPA's, but not all the time. My dampfbier version 2 came out real nice. Saved a 12 pack for tomorrow's dinner & the better part of a case besides. Still have some Bavarian watermelon hefe's to finish. Then it's on to another batch of Morebeer's ESB kit. It's so darn good I didn't have the heart to change it! Great color & balance for an E/SG kit. http://morebeer.com/products/extra-special-bitter-ale-extract-beer-kit.html Malt & hop balance are great, got the color spot on. The slightly toasted bread malt flavor with the EKG hop's herbal/lemongrass flavors is surprisingly good, especially if you don't want that 97 megaton tzar bomba assaulting your senses all the time.
